[What the role is]

You will be part of the Biorisk and Biosurveillance (B&B) team under the Veterinary Health Division (VHD) of AVS.

As a member of the trans-disciplinary team AVS, you will be responsible for providing professional and competent data analysis and research support for animal and zoonotic disease biosurveillance programmes across various sectoral partners nationally with the objective of meeting NParks mission to create the best living environment through excellence in nature conservation, greenery and recreation, and veterinary care, in partnership with the community.

This includes developing geospatial or mathematical models to study disease epidemiology and predictive modelling to understand ecological processes.

[What you will be working on]

  • Responsible for initiating and implementing research projects for animal and zoonotic diseases surveillance such as rabies, avian influenza, and vector borne zoonotic diseases in Singapore.
  • Establish datasets required for horizon scanning functions for the detection of animal and zoonotic diseases
  • Scientific writing on animal and public health matters
  • Participate in data collection and data modelling.
  • Carrying out administrative and other duties as required to ensure daily function of the branch
[What we are looking for]

  • Postgraduate Degree in Disease Modelling, Geospatial Applications, Bioinformatics, Biology, Life Sciences or related science disciplines with a combination of biology and computing competencies are preferred e.g. Biostatistics & Modelling, Computer Science with a specialization in bioinformatics or biology, Computational Biology, Life Sciences or Environmental Sciences with a data analytical training
  • Relevant job experience, research studies or scientific publications in the field of animal health and/or public health will be advantageous
  • Demonstrated ability to use software such as ArcGIS, Python, R, and other similar software would be an advantage
  • Highly motivated individual with passion for research would be an advantage
  • Team player with initiative, drive, and good interpersonal/communication skills and able to work independently.
  • Good IT and data analytical skills would be an advantage
