The World Bank Group (WBG) International Monetary Fund (IMF) Health and Safety Directorate (HSD) serves approximately 18,000 staff of the two organizations with around 60% based in Washington DC Headquarters (HQ), and the rest in Country Offices (CO).


This position will function as the OHS advisor for the Regional Singapore HSD hub, in conjunction with other HSD functional elements, Personal Health and Wellness, and Mental Health Unit.

The HSD mission is to protect and promote the health and safety of staff wherever they may be, considering their individual health status, working environment and job demands.

This is achieved by managing health and safety risks, offering evidence-based, quality controlled occupational health and safety services, and nurturing trust in clients through professionalism and confidentiality.


Under the supervision of the Senior Occupational Health and Safety Specialist, the Occupational Health and Safety Analyst will aid in the delivery of the WBG Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Management System.

This will include fundamental OHS hazard identification, risk assessment and management principles, onsite evaluation, workplace investigation, data analysis, training and recommendations on program improvement, and specialized Public/Environmental Health matters.

The OHS Analyst will direct and assist regional CO locations in the implementation of the WBG OHS Management system. This will include the development of OHS focal points in CO locations.


Scope and Complexity
Acts within the HSD regional hub functional unit in the day-to-day performance of the position's role including.

  • Implementing the WBG overarching directives, procedures and guidelines for the WBG OHS Management System
  • Empowering staff engagement and involvement to foster ownership and accountability on OHS issues throughout WBG CO locations with emphasis East Asia and Pacific (EAP)) Region but not limited to supporting other regions as needed.
  • Maintaining WBG management commitment and involvement in OHS including the creation of a culture of OHS across the EAP Region
  • Assisting in the design and implementation of a global hazard communications program across WBG
  • Assisting with Preparation, design and implementation of major OHS work programs to reduce the likelihood of accident and injuries across the WBG staff through hazard identification, analysis and control.
  • Assisting with Coordinating global OHS initiatives, assessments and programs across the WBG.
  • Providing technical briefings and content relevant to the EAP Region to the WBG OHS committee and senior management on OHS policy implementation, progress and accountability.
  • Providing key technical assistance to WBG Emergency and Country Office Crisis Management Teams on assessment, emergency preparedness and response
  • Coordinating and interacting with United Nations (UN) System on OHS.
  • Making decisions, on potentially complex issues with updates to supervisor and team lead as necessary


This position will require frequent travel to WBG country offices in the EAP region and may necessitate travel to other locations.


Duties and Accountabilities
The incumbent is part of the HSD Regional Hub with a direct technical reporting line to the Senior OHS Specialist and administratively to the Regional Hub Task Team Leader (TTL) for delivery of occupational health and safety services within the agreed work program for the regional hub and HQ:

  • Coordinate OHS support to staff.
  • Undertake OHS environmental evaluations including workplace assessments and hazard identification and risk mitigation measures in the region.
  • Assist in the design and implementation of OHS training platforms including staff, managers and OHS focal points.
  • To carry out interventions of WBG premises over the full range of environmental health including food safety, water quality, wastewater, pest control, environmental protection, building standards and other matters of public health.

  • Assist in the design and contribute to an overarching OHS data management system.
  • Operational Control
  • To prepare and present educational and promotional materials.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of Health and Safety programs in the WBG.
  • To organize and coordinate public health initiatives, special projects and educational talks to relevant stakeholders as required by the HSD.
