Description
J.D. degree (or equivalent) and bar membership in good standing in at least one jurisdiction

  • 5+ full years of legal experience as a transactional attorney (with 4+ full years at a law firm)
  • Experience drafting and negotiating a variety of complex real estate or commercial transactional documents (e.g., leases, lease amendments, purchase and sale agreements, easements, operating agreements, license agreements, etc.)


As part of the AWS colocation legal team, you will be responsible for supporting AWS's worldwide data center expansion through colocation services agreements.

You will have transactional drafting and negotiating responsibilities on deals, and will provide legal counsel and contract interpretation to business team members on a daily basis.

Transactions range from standard contracts to complex, bespoke, high-value agreements.

You will structure, draft and negotiate agreements, help support AWS's existing data center portfolio, manage outside counsel, and advise internal business clients.

In addition, you will help develop, implement, and manage process improvements across the team, resolve legal issues that arise in existing commercial relationships, and handle pre-litigation legal disputes and inquiries.

A day in the life


A typical day might include the following activities:

  • A couple of short meetings with business partners and other legal team members to share updates on ongoing projects, in-progress deals, or recent industry developments
  • Drafting the transaction documents for a new deal
  • Negotiating outstanding legal, commercial, and technical issues with one or more counterparties
  • Working on a new process to simplify or expedite how we transact with our counterparties
  • Attending a strategy planning meeting focused on expanding into a new region or deploying a new type of infrastructure or customerfacing service
