  • The Product Analytics team advances product innovation with analytics and experimentation best practices. We help ship a large number of features every week and that means instrumentation to track relevant events, running thousands of experiments evaluating changes weekly.

Get to know the role

We are looking for a Senior Data Scientist (Analytics) - Search and Personalisation with great analytical and communication skills to help product teams be more data-driven and objective and guide the design of controlled experiments.

You will learn how to thrive in ambiguity, and should have proven experience in analytics and in managing multiple stakeholders, and should have a passion for solving complex problems.


  • You will work with engineers, designers, and product managers across the company with recommendations on how to learn from unexpected results, study underlying causes for them, and iterate on the next set of products to build for our users.
  • This role is required because of the rapid pace at which Grab is building a robust content ranking and search ecosystem and we believe the only way to do this effectively is by making fast datadriven decisions. While being able to influence key product decisions with your analytical rigor, you will also get an opportunity to learn what it takes and experience firsthand building great products.

The Day-to
  • Day Activities
  • Understand business objectives and deepdive into existing data to recommend new product ideas to solve for the most impactful customer problems
  • Use data to identify trends, spot anomalies and delve deeper into their root causes
  • Use statistical techniques to interpret data and analyze results
  • Discuss and align with stakeholders on key product metrics, design and propose experimentation strategies
  • Collaborate and coordinate with crossfunctional teams to implement models and insights, and monitor outcomes
  • Launch A/B tests, analyze experiment results and provide recommendations
  • Design and own frontend and backend data specs for new products, while collaborating with engineering teams to ensure accurate and timely data collection
  • Develop and maintain data pipelines to fulfill product reporting requirements
  • Identify frequently occurring hypotheses and problem statements that can be generalised into common patterns. Develop scalable analytical frameworks and solutions to allow for solving repetitive problems in a more efficient manner
  • Rolemodel high standards of rigour in how we do measurements, experimentation, analyses and recommendations. Safeguard the integrity of how data is used and understood to ensure we maintain objectivity in our reasoning, actions and decision making
  • Evaluate the feasibility of developing new products, participate in user researches to validate customer problems
  • Use predictive modeling to increase and optimize customer experiences, revenue generation, and other business outcomes

Qualifications

The Must-Haves

  • At least 4+ years of experience working in datarelated and/or quantitative fields, including but not limited to Analytics and Applied Data Science, and/or Statistics/Math
  • Fluent with SQL, Python, R or other scripting/programming languages to problemsolve. Experienced with working with very large datasets
  • Strong data visualization and storytelling skills. Experience in creating dashboards using Tableau or other visualization tools. Knowledge of Azure toolstack (Databricks, PowerBI, Azure Data Explorer) will be a plus
  • Selfmotivator and an ability to learn independently
  • Ability to deliver on tight timelines and move quickly with crossfunctional teams to partner or lead decisionmaking while maintaining high attention to detail

The Nice-to-Haves

  • Relevant industry experience (preferably in an Internet or 'Direct to Consumer' company with high velocity data and scaled controlled experiments) and/or prior experience with Product Management or businessfacing operations will be a plus
  • Experience with designing and concluding controlled A/B experiments
  • Prior experience with supervised (eg : predictive modeling regressions/classifications) and unsupervised (eg : clustering, segmentation) ML algorithms
