About Heritage Conservation Centre, Singapore


The National Heritage Board (NHB) preserves, presents and promotes the cultural heritage of Singapore and the Heritage Conservation Centre (HCC) is an institution of NHB.

It is a purpose-built facility located at Jurong Port Road for the storage and conservation of the National Collection comprising artworks and artefacts.

Its mission is to care for, manage and facilitate access to the National Collection.


In addition to working in HCC, the Conservator would be working on site at the museums when the need arises.


Paper Conservation

  • Carry out conservation assessments, documentation and treatments on artworks and artefacts according to HCC procedures for projects, exhibitions and events for museums and institutions under NHB, Heritage Institutions and the Visual Arts Cluster.
  • Conduct preventive care such as carrying out and overseeing the mounting/framing of paper works, rehousing work, providing advice on the environmental settings for storage or exhibitions purposes.
  • Supporting exhibitions by ensuring that the paper works are safe for display, carrying out installation/deinstallation work and providing advice on the handling and display requirements whenever necessary. This includes being the liaison officer for the paper section on assigned exhibitions projects.
  • Participate and share administrative duties in the paper section, ranging from coordinating meetings, preparing agendas, minutes of meetings, report writing, and any procurement work as assigned by the head of paper section.
  • Be involved in conservation working groups based in HCC, conservation studies, research projects, outreach events or any other ahhoc duties as assigned.

Requirements:

Bachelor and/or Masters in Conservation from a recognised training institution or with preferably - 5 years' of relevant work experience will be considered.

  • Ability to carry out comprehensive well documented treatments with high degree of manual dexterity.
  • Experience in the conservation of photographs, as well as modern and contemporary artworks will be preferred.
  • Familiarity and experience with cultural materials in Southeast Asia and the challenges induced by its hot and humid climate will be advantageous.
  • Possess initiative with ability to multitask, organise and prioritise work within a given timeline.
  • Ability to work unsupervised as well as a strong teamplayer within a team
  • Ability to adapt in a multilingual and multiracial environment.
  • Possess strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Keep up to date with current conservation development through selfdirected learning and training. Evidence of continual professional development is strongly desirable.
