RESPONSIBILITIES/PRINCIPAL DUTIES:


The Director, Public Affairs & Patient Advocacy, Innovative Medicine Asia Pacific (AP) is a critical regional leadership role, responsible for accelerating our public affairs and patient advocacy efforts across the region.

Working closely with the Senior Director, Government Affairs & Policy and the VP, Market Access for AP the role will be a key driver of shaping our operating environment.

The newly created role will have people management responsibilities and be a core member of the Innovative Medicine AP Communication & Public Affairs Leadership Team.


The role will:

  • Develop, lead and execute innovative public affairs strategies that shape our operating environment and increase patient access to our portfolio of innovative medicines
  • Partner with regional strategic marketing (APSO) and market access to identify, develop and execute regionwide public affairs strategies
  • Work closely with our Market Communication & Public Affairs Leaders to identify key opportunities to deploy public affairs strategies that have clear, measurable impact at a tangible market level
  • Serve as strategic counsel to the APSO Leadership team and APLT on public affairs challenges and opportunities in the region
  • Deploy cutting edge ways to measure and track our efforts in the public affairs space
  • Build, strengthen and create relationships with critical partners, advocates, NGOs, academics etc. at both the regional and local market level to advance our public affairs interests
  • Engage and represent the company's interests with multicountry trade associations and industry bodies
  • Develop an ongoing body of work that drives forward our thought leadership in areas of market access, pricing, investment, intellectual property and innovation
  • Guide and deploy the investment of our resources to rapidly build and strengthen our teams' public affairs and patient advocacy capabilities across the region
  • Develop robust training approaches and methodologies to embed public affairs as a core capability of our teams APwide
  • Engage and partner with the global, and other market public affairs team to leverage and share best practice efforts to advance our function globally
  • Identify partners that can effective and proactively help us to build this as a strength
  • Enable the team to move towards an endstate where public affairs is a core competency for appropriate roles across the entire team (not just the domain of specialists)
  • Upskill our business partners and senior business leaders to understand what public affairs is and the opportunities worldclass public affairs capabilities can afford our organization
  • Help our business partners better understand how public affairs strategies can be utilized and deployed in their businesses
  • Nurture and develop our emerging regional capabilities in patient advocacy
  • Have leadership responsibility for our patient advocacy efforts in the region
  • Partner closely with key marketing and commercial excellence leadership to champion the role of the patient voice in driving our decision making and strategy
  • Champion the voice of patients across all forums within the company helping bring the outside in, and identify opportunities for our teams to interact more frequently and meaningfully with patient advocates
  • Have linemanagement responsibility for the Head of Patient Advocacy Asia Pacific (also a new role)
  • Assess and determine the appropriate resourcing needed to continue to build patient advocacy and engagement as a key strength and differentiator for our company
  • Actively represent Asia Pacific and engage with regional and global teams across Johnson & Johnson and around the world
  • Serve as an active and engaged member of the Asia Pacific Communication & Public Affairs Leadership Team building a strong function across the region
  • Promote the development and movement of talent across the region building future regional leaders
  • Partner incredibly closely with our Government Affairs & Policy and Market Access colleagues across the region to deliver on shared priorities to shape our operating environment
  • Work across sector lines in to communicate powerfully as one Johnson & Johnson voice at key external and internal opportunities
  • Deliver key regional capability building and best practice sharing initiatives
  • Represent Asia Pacific at global forums and on global projects as required

Qualifications:


  • Bachelor's degree and above; advanced degree preferred
years working experience in public affairs and media relations

  • Strong public affairs experience required
  • Healthcare industry experience preferred
  • Deep understand of more than one AP market's policy environment strongly preferred
  • Proactive attitude to identify and address opportunities
  • Strategic thinker with ability to develop robust strategies to shape our operating environment as well as our capabilities as a team to do so
  • Flawless English writ
