School of Chemistry, Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology is a new interdisciplinary School, and is seeking an experienced and highly motivated individual to join our team as Assistant Manager, Pastoral Care & Counselling.

This role holds significant importance in ensuring the overall wellbeing of our students by providing support for their academic, emotional, and psychological development.

The primary objective is to cultivate students' resilience in order to help them overcome challenges, enhance personal effectiveness, promote general wellbeing, and improve emotional health.

Ultimately, this position aims to empower students to realize their full potential throughout their academic journey at NTU.


Responsibilities:

Pastoral Support and Guidance

  • Case management, coaching, mentoring and/or counselling to the students (undergraduate and graduates), particularly those with problems or potential problems, which include academic and personal issues. The aim is to help these students who would otherwise be saddled with concerns that would impede their academic pursuits.

The cases would include, but not limited to:

  • Students who are placed on academic warnings, academic probation and academic termination
  • Students who suffer a significant drop in the CGPAs across semesters
  • Students who skip classes and not submit their assignments
  • Scholarship holders who have lost or in danger of losing their scholarships
  • Students with personal problems (e.g. financial, health, grief/loss, relationships, work matters, etc.)
  • Students with special needs
  • Where needed, to work with the programme managers, faculty and relevant offices, e.g. Office of Admissions, Office of Academic Services, Student Affairs Office (SAO), University Wellbeing Centre (UWC) and external parties when dealing with the above issues
  • Where needed, coordinate and arrange students with academic needs to be on peer tutoring and/or other similar programmes
  • Develop SOPs to handle students and faculty in various situations, such as crisis, home visits, etc. for clarify and consistency in approach and to continually review existing practices to improve quality and timeliness of service
Outreach and Education

  • Maintain close communication and collaboration with the School Management, fellow pastoral care managers, and SAO and UWC to build awareness within the community on Student wellbeing
  • Collaborate with UWC on talks/activities for students on mental health (stress management, better buddy system, etc. at Freshman Orientation and school events)
  • Assist in admission and outreach activities
Students' Well-Being

  • Administer T15's award claim
  • Manage Peer Tutoring Programme and its relevant claims


  • Organise Mentor

  • Mentee sessions arrangements for students to meet faculty members (Mentors) on monthly/ bimonthly basis
  • Organize and execute studentrelated activities and ensure the smooth execution of these development programmes e.g. University Scholars Leadership Symposium, Overseas Community Involvement Programme
  • Guide Undergraduate Students' club (not including Nueve Club for Freshmen Orientation) in the organisation of activities and programmes
  • Monitor budget expenditure for student clubs and ensure expenditure is in accordance to stipulated requirements
  • Liaise with AC (Students) on the Undergraduate students' club activities and initiatives
  • Work closely with Undergraduate students' club to execute activities and initiatives
  • Coordinate with CAO and its related activities for students
Critical Incident / Crisis Management

  • Work closely with medical and counselling personnel at UWC to make referral or provide case consultation/counselling where needed
Feedback, Grievance and Disciplinary Management

  • Follow up appropriately on feedback and complains received against students, including disciplinary cases
  • Prepare case notes/reports and maintain updated records of student counselled
Other Pastoral Care duties

  • Recommend ways, programmes and or initiatives to help faculty or staff who are working closely with students identify and detect students with issues as early as possible

Requirements:


  • Degree, specialising in the social sciences such as psychology or behavioural/human sciences is preferred
  • Knowledge on Psychology or behavioural/human sciences
  • Minimum 3 years of experience working with 1 year relevant experience in the mental health, social service or education sector
  • Familiarity with student affairs in higher education will be advantageous
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to multitask
