    Roles & Responsibilities

    Role

    St Francis Methodist School caters to students from 6 to 18 years of age. We are looking for a passionate, adaptable educator to fill the role of Academic Head of the High School Languages Department.

    The Academic Head is a member of the Key Personnel Team which has the responsibility of ensuring teaching and learning meets the standards and practices of the school's programmes. He/she reports to the Vice-Principal. The High School Academic Head is expected to take on an adjusted teaching load alongside departmental leadership duties.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Develop department policies to ensure continual improvement for short-term and long-term growth of the department.
    • Oversee teaching & learning and ensure quality of assessments in the subject areas of Language learning.
    • Develop strategies to optimise student learning and ensure student and staff well-being.
    • Monitor outcomes and undertake programme review and development.
    • Ensure the smooth running of the department, including actively building a culture of collaboration and continual improvement.
    • Lead and line-manage teachers in the Languages Department
    • Perform administrative duties associated with the running of the department and management of resources, including the planning of continuing professional development.
    • Actively engage and communicate with parents / guardians.
    • Contribute to key working committees and participate in school events.
    • Create a nurturing and stimulating learning environment and promote the ethos and values of the school.

    Job Requirements

    • A degree in English Language or similar area
    • A MOE-recognised Diploma in Teaching or equivalent certification
    • At least 5 years of teaching experience, with a minimum of 2 years as a Subject/Level Head in a High School setting
    • Experience teaching international students and/or students learning English as a second language will be a distinct advantage.
    • Familiarity with one or more of the following syllabi:
    1. Singapore Cambridge 'O' Level
    2. International General Certificate of Secondary Education (UK)
    3. Western Australian Certificate of Education (Australian High School)
    4. International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme
    • Experience in teaching IBDP will also be a plus.
    • Ability to plan and lead in the delivery of inquiry-based learning and to integrate technology into teaching and learning.
    • Keen sense of responsibility, passion to work with youths and a strong belief in holistic education.
    • Good communication, interpersonal and collaboration skills
    • Capacity to inspire students of all abilities, build teams with colleagues from diverse backgrounds.
