Cloud Operations and Innovation (CO+I) is the business unit responsible for operating Microsoft's cloud and the Datacenter Construction Delivery (DCD) team is responsible for constructing datacenter capacity.

We have a portfolio of complex, multi-disciplinary, multi-million, multi-year datacenter construction and lease projects underway. Our focus is on smart growth, high efficiency, and delivering a trusted experience to customers and partners worldwide.

The role of the Lease Construction Lead (LCL) requires strong interpersonal, communication, organizational skills, ability to self-direct, strong background in data center design, engineering, controls, operational requirements, and an emphasis on project/construction management.

The LCL is a working manager role.


The LCL is ultimately responsible for each lease construction project safe delivery (RFS - Ready For Service / WSR - White Space Ready) in their sub region managed directly or through FTE (LCM - Lease Construction Manager)/Vendor PM Staff.

The LCL is responsible for ensuring that each project meets the Data Center Development (DCD) guidelines and standards, which may be adjusted from time-to-time based on best practices and Lesson Learned drawn from previous projects as well as industry changing best practice.

In addition, LCL will be responsible to manage & ensure that each lease provider in their sub region is complying and delivering the project per Microsoft lease agreement contract.


The LCL will coordinate with Microsoft's Subject Matter Experts (SME) to support the efforts of achieving RFS for each lease data center sites.

The LCL will manage the deliveries of projects from lease execution through RFS.

In managing the delivery of projects, this position aligns team objectives, business processes, vendor management strategies, and cross-group collaboration efforts with the Data Center Development Project Strategy.

The LCL will be a relentless advocate for managing a safe worksite.

Safety is one of the four pillars of CO+I's mission in delivering cloud capacity; joined by Quality, Schedule adherence, and Cost Management.

The LCL will also collaborate with Microsoft Security, Microsoft IT (MSIT), Legal, Project Engineering, MS Business Risk Management, and other internal groups to maintain the corporate vision and goals for the Project.


In addition, this position will be responsible for reviewing potential lease sites and assisting site selection teams in providing feedback on lease provider's qualifications.

LCL will work closely to support the Integration & Technical Infrastructure Managers (ITIM) across regions and their respective local sites.


Responsibilities:


  • The Key Responsibilities of the LCL includes, but not limited to:
  • The LCL will be a relentless advocate for managing a safe worksite.
  • The LCL will be responsible for identifying and managing stakeholder dependencies and construction deliverables and handoffs with the following Microsoft teams: E2E (EndtoEnd), Security (DCPS), Data Center Engineering (DCE), Data Center Operations (DC Ops), Site Selection and Acquisition (SSA), Environmental Health & Safety (EHS).
  • The LCL will manage lease providers and support associated teams & partners in the delivering RFS "Ready for Service"
  • This position will require travel up to 50% of the time to data center sites outside of their base location.
  • Business Processes:
  • To maintain the requirements stated in the lease agreement using MSFT best practices
  • Manage Lease Providers and associated internal partners to deliver RFS
  • Drive deployment of solutions that can be socialized globally across DCD projects
  • Facilitate decisionmaking to drive solutions, schedules, and manage change as required
  • Communication:
  • Provide project single point of contact for project development and delivery
  • Coordinate meetings and activities of Lease Providers and internal MSFT SME.
  • Attend scheduled owner/architect/contractor (OAC) and other project meetings, and report as necessary
  • Report Project Progress on scope, schedule, and budget weekly or as required
  • Provide weekly project status reporting to DCD standards
  • Accountability:
  • Responsible for managing the construction process of achieving RFS.
  • Work independently in support of the DCD Project Team
  • Track lessons learned and identify improvements to share across groups
  • Route RFS approval to all stakeholders and regional approvers

Qualifications:
