About Clarence Chua:

A passionate communicator with the knack for storytelling.

I'm a graduate with a diploma in Mass Communications, and I've recently completed my internship at Weber Shandwick where I've been lucky enough to work on some amazing PR campaigns.

I'm a bit of a jack-of-all-trades, but I'm especially passionate in storytelling. I love creating content that is both informative and engaging which is where my expertise lies in.

When I'm not working, I'm usually travelling and taking photos. I'm always on the lookout for new places to explore and new stories to tell. I'm also a big fan of social media, and love using it to connect with people from all over the world.

I'm always looking for an opportunity to work with a company that shares my passion for communication and creativity!

Experience

During my term and semester breaks during my education years, I have picked up the role of a part time social media manager and content creator for various brands ranging from a pregnancy and parenting platform to a bakery. Each brand with their own identified tonality, style, and target audience, all of which I have learned to take extra notice of and apply into my future work.

As for internship experience, I was a Communications and External Relations intern for a non-profit organisation - Industrial & Services Co-Operative Society Ltd (ISCOS), an organisation supporting ex-convicts and their loved ones. My main tasks were primarily content ideating, content creation, and copywriting while my secondary tasks were to support events through photography and videography.

My most recent professional experience concluded on 4 Sept, I was a PR intern dabbling in both integrated media strategies and client experience at Weber Shandwick. Being in a global agency, it felt like a big step into the real world and creative comms industry. I got to be a part of major accounts and business pitches, an assortment of tasks assigned felt extremely overwhelming and truly taught me the true meaning of communication and time management. Aside from the many hard skills I picked up which ultimately shaped me into a more confident professional, I picked up an abundance of soft skills and improved pre-existing ones such as using excel to calculate and provide media insights and social media analytics, content ideation and general PR tasks (media relations, drafting press releases and pitch notes, media monitoring and other ad-hoc duties).

Education

I graduated from Nanyang Polytechnic in the year 2023 with a diploma in Mass Communications. This was where my passion for creating content blossomed, while there were many limitations, it was great practice and made me want to push boundaries and test my capabilities for the first time. While there were many business aspects integrated into the course of study and not strictly film study, journalism or public relations, it kept things interesting and taught me versatility.

In NYP, there were many firsts which I still remember vividly - my first short film, live episode in our own media studio, in person interview, feature article, and for my final year project, a magazine. All of which I would constantly challenge myself to greater heights and aim to lead the project, my lecturers luckily saw this fire in me and would often nominate and assign me to such roles. Despite this, I have never shied away from other supporting roles, I have been a camera operator, producer, sound manager, floor manager, editor before I got the chance to direct and be chief editor. I believe this is how I keep myself hungry for more and challenge myself creatively by taking on various roles to grow and learn.

I am currently waiting to start my next academic journey in SIM RMIT studying Communications.
