Evelyn Michal Chew

I am enthusiastic about working with children of all ages, particularly those in primary and preschool. I enjoy traveling around the world to discover and learn about different cultures. In my spare time, I enjoy photographing nature and the food I eat. I also enjoy singing, watching Discovery and National Geographic channel documentaries, and conducting research on fun experiments/activities for children to do in class. I like to use Duolingo on my phone to learn basic foreign languages such as Spanish, Korean, and Italian in order to communicate or better understand what they say. 
 

I've been a teacher for over five years, but the majority of that time has been spent working as an assistant teacher in preschool, international school as well as local primary schools. I worked with children of various ages from 4 years old to 10 years of age. I support the teachers in preparing teaching materials, setting up small-group activities and lessons in class, keeping track of each student's work, and ensuring the safety of the students as they move from one location to another, such as on field trips or when taking them from class to the canteen for a snack and lunch. I'll move around the classroom to monitor student progress on assessments and identify those who require more one-on-one support. If there are students who require additional assistance with their work, I will guide them during class time.  

I took the course Diploma in Early Childhood Care & Education - Teaching under National Institute of Early Childhood Development for 1.5 years. The course modules consist of Child Development, Child Safety, Health & Socio-emotional Wellbeing, Principles & Practices in Early Education, The Professional & Reflective Practitioner, Language & Literacy, Effective Learning Environment for Young Children, Motor Skills Development, Social Emotional Learning, Aesthetics & Creative Expression, Early Numeracy, Discovery of the World, Curriculum Planning & Implementation, Family & Community Partnership, and last but not least Working with the Exceptional Child.
