Thales DIS is a part of Thales Group, a company that has businesses in aerospace, space, ground transportation, defense and security, and digital identity and security. Thales DIS is a world leader in digital security. Thales DIS offers highly attack-resistant software and hardware products. They are also in the business of manufacturing best quality smart cards, bank cards, SIM cards, passports and other materials that require high digital security requirements.

From 2018 up to present, I work as Hardware Engineer for the Silicon Components Team. My main responsibility is to develop proprietary hardware testing tools. The goal is to improve our testing methods and keep up with ever-evolving customer requirements. I do electronics design, mostly microcontroller-based embedded systems involving digital communication protocols such as I2C, SPI, UART, ISO7816 and USB 2.0, along side with power blocks using DC-DC conversions. Aside from electronics design, I also do PCB layout design, create BOM’s, performs Design Verification and Testing (DVT), and manages the fabrication of the boards. I can code firmwares using C and C++ languages, and create test applications using Visual Studio. In some occasions, I perform meticulous electrical testing to qualify chips, both Thales-made and from external suppliers.

From Sept 2015 to Dec 2017, I belonged to Embedded Software Advance Applications (ESAA) Team as an Embedded Engineer. Our team develops new applications involving digital security in embedded systems. Main goal is to come up with new applications that can give the company more profit. My main responsibilities were electronics hardware design and embedded software development. In hardware design, I design tools to test and validate proprietary protocols invented by Thales DIS. I also support hardware debugging and problem solving to internal teams. In software, I design and develop embedded software
modules, applets and applications for larger software design based on customer requirements. Understands and uses API’s of other software modules to accomplish requirements.

2) Electronics Engineer – March 2013 to August 2015

TEDPI is an independent design team in the Philippines composed of Electronics Engineers, Firmware Engineers and Mechanical Engineers. It is owned by PCI Limited, a Singapore-based Original Design Manufacturing (ODM) electronics firm. It has assembly and production factories at Batam in Indonesia and Shanghai in China.

I belonged to the Electronics Team. My main responsibilities were Hardware Designing, component selection, performing and documenting Design Verification and Testing (DVT) and preparing BOM’s. I have experience in designing embedded systems using usually ARM-based microcontrollers and microprocessors.

I am very familiar with interfaces and connectivity such as USB 2.0, USB3.0, PCIe, I2C, SPI, RS-232, UART, LVDS, Fast/Gigabit Ethernet, HDMI, Bluetooth, WiFi, NFC, GPS, GSM, ISO7816, etc.

I can design DC-DC power blocks using buck and boost converters.

I can work with all types of sensors, be it an analog sensor using ADC reading or digital using low speed communications such as I2C and SPI.

I am also the team’s PCB specialist. Although PCB design is most of the time done in our main office in PCI Limited Singapore, there are occasions that TEDPI independently do PCB design for projects. I am experienced in using Altium Designer for PCB layout and simulation. I also have experience in layouting boards up to 6 layers, with high-speed signals such us USB 3.0,USB 2.0, Ethernet, PCIe, HDMI and Low Voltage Differential Signals (LVDS). 

In a project where I was the Electronics Engineer, I was also assigned to develop its firmware because of my skill in low-level programming using C language. I have experiences in developing embedded systems programs with 8-, 16- and 32-bit microcontrollers. Went to Singapore to test and demo the prototypes to the customer on that project.

3) Cadet Engineer III – from Sept 2011 to March 2013

Ace Electronics Technology Inc. is a local R&D company in the Philippines. One of the oldest in the local industry. It has clients in both local and foreign countries.

Worked in the Research and Development (R&D) Department. Designed electronic devices, this included developing both hardware and firmware, PCB design and generating Gerber files for fabrication of the board. From the first stage of planning and design, creation of prototype, to providing testing procedure for mass production of the device. Responsible for troubleshooting and resolving production problems. Also handles special repairs from clients.
