AQUACULTURE RESEARCH TECHNICIAN — PONTUS RESEARCH GROUP

  • Perform daily husbandry of trial species (shrimp), ensuring optimal welfare through precise feeding, system maintenance, and water quality monitoring.
  • Record and analyse aquaculture system parameters (water chemistry, physical conditions) to support experimental reliability and animal health.
  • Collect, process, and prepare biological and environmental samples for laboratory analysis; compile and verify resulting datasets.
  • Maintain accurate records of feeding, growth performance, and trial outcomes, ensuring compliance with research protocols.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to conduct statistical analyses, prepare technical reports, and communicate findings to clients.

LAB TECHNICIAN — 3M

  • Contribute to ongoing research and development (R&D) projects by supporting experimental design, conducting trials, collecting data, and reporting findings to engineers and scientists.
  • Operate and maintain a 4.5m blown film machine, assist with resin loading and extrusion processes in support of material performance research and process optimization. 
  • Assist in masterbatch generation using hot extruder lines; handle polymer materials safely and effectively.
  • Conduct die build-up studies on small extruder machines, capturing high-resolution hot polymer melt images at fixed intervals over extended test durations (e.g., 6 hours) for analysis.
  • Conduct various chemical, physical, and mechanical analyses in accordance with test plans to evaluate new materials, formulations, and processing techniques.
  • Interpret and document test results, assisting in research data tracking, trend identification, and formulation improvements. 
  • Support formulation studies and material behaviour investigations by working closely with research engineers and providing accurate and repeatable experimental data. 
  • Maintain laboratory cleanliness and ensure safe handling and disposal of polymer waste after each test.
  • Follow standardized testing procedures and adhere to strict safety and quality compliance protocols in a collaborative, self-directed team environment.
  • Apply mechanical aptitude to set up, operate, and troubleshoot laboratory equipment used in material testing and prototype trials.
  • Supervise and train interns in lab operations, experiment setup, safety procedures, and data recording.
  • Collaborate with engineers to ensure audit readiness by maintaining detailed lab records, asset inventories, and procedural documentation.
  • Review and update Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to align with current practices and audit standards.
  • Responsible for preparing and maintaining essential documentation, including:
  • Risk Assessments for experimental protocols and equipment use.
  • Audit Findings reports and follow-up actions for compliance improvements.
  • AFD (Action for Development) documentation to support continuous improvement initiatives.
  • MOC (Management of Change) paperwork to track and implement updates to processes, equipment, or materials within the lab.
