Lay Tat Ong

Senior Asst Director Survey Operations
Singapore

Social

About Lay Tat Ong:

Served as an Assistant and a Senior Assistant Director (Research and Statistics) in Ministry of Manpower from 2000-2019. I possess excellent organizational skills with an ability to think proactively and prioritize work in great details. This skill set enabled me to manage a team of  30 permanent staff and 70 temporary contract workers for survey fieldwork operations. Some of the surveys I managed involved huge sample sizes like the Annual Labour Force Survey   (33,000 households) and Quarterly Labour Market Survey (14,000 companies).  The surveys were completed on scheduled deadlines.

Managing such mega survey operations would require excellent communication skills to effectively manage internal and external stakeholders’ engagement through survey briefings and meetings. This attests to my abilities to build strong working relationships across levels and functions, demographic profiles, and cultures to influence and achieve best outcomes out of a diverse team.

In addition, I spent about 5 years as a lecturer in Nanyang Polytechnic. As a lecturer, I developed skills in teaching, developing curriculums and building relations with students, lecturers, and parents in a teaching environment.

Since, my retirement from Ministry of Manpower in 2019, I have worked in 4 social organisations – 3 churches (St Georges Church, And Mo Kio Methodist Church and Fairfield Methodist Church) and at Alexandra Hospital as Advanced Care Senior Executive. Hence, I have working knowledge in the social and/or health sector.

I also possess strong logical thinking and analysing skills to provide clear and executable solutions;  Resourceful, sound thinker with broad vision; Able to converse in Hokkien and basic Mandarin; with competencies on MS Office and also open to learn new software and systems.
