About Long Lit Chew:
I’m Long Lit Chew, a Project Manager at the Global Centre for Maritime Decarbonisation (GCMD) in Singapore, where I lead pioneering initiatives that accelerate the deployment of sustainable marine fuels. My work focuses on bridging the gap between laboratory research and real-world application — translating complex fuel science into actionable insights for shipowners, fuel suppliers, and engine makers.
With a background in Chemical Engineering and deep expertise in biofuels, I have managed multiple first-of-its-kind projects including Project LOTUS (the world’s longest B24 biofuel trial on vessels), Project CAO (engine testbeds on crude algae oil blends), and emerging studies on Cashew Nut Shell Liquid (CNSL) fuels. My projects span the full ecosystem — from fuel quality assurance and engine testing to tracer deployment, supply chain emissions, and sustainability frameworks — all aimed at enabling safe and scalable decarbonisation pathways for shipping.
Beyond technical delivery, I’m passionate about developing data-driven frameworks that standardize biofuel quality, enhance transparency in lifecycle emissions, and strengthen stakeholder confidence in alternative fuels. I work closely with industry partners, regulators, and classification societies to translate trial learnings into practical guidance for global adoption.
Ultimately, my goal is to help chart a measurable and credible transition toward low- and zero-carbon shipping — one fuel trial, framework, and collaboration at a time.
Experience
Experienced project manager specializing in sustainable marine fuels and decarbonisation technologies. Currently leading multiple flagship biofuel initiatives at the Global Centre for Maritime Decarbonisation (GCMD) in Singapore, including long-term vessel trials (Project LOTUS), engine testbed evaluations (Project CAO), and quality assurance frameworks (QQAA).
With a background in Chemical Engineering, I bring hands-on expertise in biofuel quality analysis, lifecycle emissions assessment, and engine performance testing. My work bridges research, regulation, and real-world operations — coordinating across shipowners, fuel suppliers, OEMs, laboratories, and classification societies to deliver data-driven insights that advance maritime decarbonisation.
Skilled in stakeholder engagement, project management, and technical reporting, I focus on translating experimental results into industry guidance and scalable frameworks that support the safe, reliable, and transparent adoption of low-carbon fuels.
Education
Master of Science in Chemical Engineering with specialization in renewable and sustainable energy systems. My academic background provided a strong foundation in thermodynamics, reaction engineering, and fuel chemistry, which I have since applied to biofuel production, lifecycle analysis, and engine performance studies in the maritime sector.
This technical grounding enables me to bridge scientific principles with practical applications — from fuel formulation and quality testing to emissions modelling and system integration — supporting evidence-based approaches to decarbonising shipping.
