Pari Sen Biswas

I am a second-year student at Yale-NUS College, majoring in Urban Studies and minoring in Global Affairs. I am experienced in qualitative data analysis, demographic research, and academic writing. I am looking for experiences in public policy and urban development, and hope to learn more about policy analysis, social welfare, and urban infrastructure.

Currently, I am working closely with Professor Pareena Gupta Lawrence (Visiting Professor at Yale-NUS College, Senior Fellow at Yale University Office of International Affairs) on a book that analyses the impact of the women's chieftain reservation policy in Himachal Pradesh, India. The project takes a comparative approach with the women's reservation policy in Haryana, India, and follows Professor Lawrence's previous publication: Life Histories of Women Panchayat Sarpanches from Haryana, India. I have so far been overseeing the biographical section of the book, authoring and editing ten 20-page chapters that document the life histories of interviewed chieftain women from all around Himachal. Throughout the writing process, I conducted qualitative data analysis of raw observations and interviews. I organised and analysed the interviewees' details and village demographics to identify patterns in their life stories, aspirations, and work focuses.

I also work as a Peer Counsellor at my university's counselling office. I was one of two chosen applications out of 34 after an interview process testing my communication and non-judgment skills. I have undergone training in solution-focused brief therapy, crisis management, and active listening. At P.S. We Care, I am happy to provide an accessible and safe space for my university's student body to seek support, solidarity, and help. Exercising empathy to foster mental health amongst my peers has been very gratifying, and I am excited to further develop my counselling abilities.

Previously, I worked as a human resources intern at Treehouse, an upcoming DeFi company. I managed onboarding and offboarding processes and initiated new organizational systems to better manage employee data. I supervised job listings, conducted interviews and resume screenings, and orientations as well. I also worked with hiring managers to ensure employee efficiency and identify team needs. I also learned how to manage HR financials by conducting payroll, CPF, and tax submissions to maintain employee financial security. This experience made me well-versed in ground-level HR processes, and I am very grateful to have had the opportunity to so intimately learn about the employee life cycle and the importance of office team dynamics. As a startup, Treehouse's dynamic environment developed my time-management and project-management skills, learning to quickly and creatively respond to company needs.

I am a sophomore at Yale-NUS College, a liberal arts university in Singapore that offers a multidisciplinary education and encourages creative and critical thinking. I am majoring in Urban Studies and minoring in Global Affairs, and am especially interested in public policy and social infrastructure. GPA of 4.67/5.00.

For my high school education, I completed my International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme at the Canadian International School of Singapore. I achieved IB44 points out of 45, and was awarded High Honour Roll (2020-21) distinction for academic performance in the top 5% of my cohort. My higher-level courses were Psychology, Design & Technology, and English Language & Literature. At the standard-level, I took Mathematics, Biology, and Mandarin.
