I believe in seeing the child as a whole person who will learn best in an environment where they feel safe and empowered to speak and share their opinions, differing as they may be from the adults and their peers. For the past 10 years, that is what I've always tried to provide in my classroom too. 

While I have been predominantly a primary years Maths and Science teacher based in Singapore, I am comfortable teaching across cultures and communities and working with students from all different socio-economic backgrounds. 

I am currently taking the Certification in Traumatic Stress offered by the Trauma Research Foundation in Boston, USA, to have a better grasp of working with students with adverse childhood experiences or any other trauma-related behaviours and emotional difficulties. 

My hope is that the classroom should feel like a nurturing, replenishing and exploratory space for a child where they can explore and learn at their own pace. Humour is important in life and in the classroom too, no matter what may be stirring up inside for each of us. My students walk in knowing that the classroom will be a source of positivity and joy for them and that learning will be interesting and enjoyable.
