About Sheila Sim:
With expertise in 2D materials and thermoelectric devices, I have exfoliated various materials (CrPS4, MoS2, Graphene, BiTeI, TiS3, SnS2, WSe2, ReS2) and fabricated devices using Electronic Beam Lithography, E-beam deposition, AFM, and Raman characterization. Skilled in characterizing thermosets and Covalent Adaptable Networks (CANs) with TGA, DSC, DMA, tensile testing, and Raman spectroscopy, I possess proficiency in data analysis tools. My research experience includes an in-depth review of Mobility Engineering in 2D Materials, exploring thermoelectric properties of MoS₂ and TiS3, and investigating Humidity-Resistant Reprocessible Elastomeric Thermosets. Additionally, I co-authored two technical disclosures on machine learning-based flake recognition and innovative 2D material stacking techniques, showcasing my expertise in the field.
Experience
Highly skilled materials scientist with a strong educational background, including an MSc in Advanced Materials Science and Engineering from Loughborough University and advanced diplomas from Singapore Polytechnic. Proven research experience in 2D materials, thermoelectric devices, and nanocomposites, with technical skills in Electronic Beam Lithography, Raman Spectroscopy, and data analysis tools. Possesses industry experience as a Senior Research Engineer at the Institute of Materials Research and Engineering and Lab Technician at Donald McArthy Trading, with expertise in laboratory management, team supervision, and inventory system implementation. Additionally, has experience in technical writing, marketing analysis, and event planning, with proficiency in multiple languages and laboratory skills.
Education
As a Research Student in Loughbourugh University, I conducted an in-depth investigation on 2D nanocomposites, focusing on optimizing Boron Nitride Nanosheets through ball milling and reinforcing them with Zirconium Oxide Composite via the Cold Sintering Process. This research culminated in a comprehensive dissertation, "Processing of Boron Nitride Nanosheet reinforced ZrO2 nanocomposite," which showcased my expertise in materials science and nanotechnology.
