About Ting Yu Lee:
I am a Year 4 Undergraduate at Singapore Management University (SMU), currently pursuing a double degree in Social Sciences (Psychology) and Business Management (Organisational Behaviour and Human Resources).
Experience
With my keen passion for psychology, I actively seek out opportunities that widen my horizons and develop my capabilities in the psychology arena. As a member of SMU Peer Helpers and the Crisis Response Team, I undergo training and provide emotional support to SMU peers periodically. As a Victim Care Officer under Singapore Police Force, I administer psychological first aid to victims of crime. These experiences have equipped me with basic counselling skills essential to a psychologist. Additionally, during my internship at the Institute of Mental Health, I was responsible for triaging patients over phone calls and referring them to appropriate services. I also observed psychotherapy sessions and partook in the administration of behavioural interventions for Autism Spectrum Disorder patients. This stint provided me with insights that will enable me to effectively assess and treat my patients in the future. Research-wise, my continual involvement in various projects strengthened my research and analytical competencies. For example, I wrote a systematic review examining the effectiveness of counselling interventions for police officers when I was working in the Police Psychological Services Department. Presently, I am working on my final-year thesis which investigates the effect of parental factors on children’s mental health. Extending beyond research papers, I am able to independently translate research into materials appealing to different target audiences. For example, I produced a mental resilience podcast for Immigration & Checkpoints Authority officers and wrote newsletters for SMU students. Finally, I continuously challenge myself by taking on leadership roles such as (1) Director of Internal Processes and External Relations and (2) Community Peer Support Leader. Having taken on these roles which involve extensive coordination and communication with multiple stakeholders, it is safe to say I have grown immensely as a leader and team player. Besides, managing adversity that accompanies a leader’s responsibilities has bolstered my adaptability and crisis management abilities.
Education
I am completing my Bachelor's degree in Social Sciences (Psychology) at the end of this year (2023).
