About Trisha Nuque:
A recent university graduate driven to apply my knowledge and skills in the shipping industry to drive meaningful impact. With a strong passion for cultivating robust relationships and coursework focused on sustainability, I possess the confidence and expertise to foster connections and leverage sustainability knowledge to effect change. I am highly enthusiastic about pursuing a career in shipbroking to contribute to the industry's growth and sustainability objectives.
Experience
I had the opportunity to intern at Singapore Shipping Association, a national trade association in the maritime industry. I was exposed to various aspects of the organization, from administrative and membership support to research and training coordination. On a daily basis I maintained membership details and supported online and physical events. In other tasks, I prepared minutes of secretariat meetings, assisted the production team with their tasks, coordinated training arrangements, and researched articles and scripts for the technical manager. I also created a workflow manual to guide interns and staff in their procedures and processes. Through this experience, I have learned about the importance of understanding stakeholders’ needs and the complexities of the maritime industry, and further developed my organizational and communication skills.
Education
As a final year Maritime Business student at the University of Plymouth, I have experienced an incredibly enriching educational experience. I had the opportunity to visit the International Maritime Organisation as part of a school trip, and participated in various company engagements and networking events organised by the University. I also wrote a dissertation on how maritime sustainability and operational resilience during crisis affect the success of SMEs. This dissertation was a very demanding and rewarding endeavour – it really pushed me to think analytically and develop a more complicated way of thinking.
The University of Plymouth has provided me with a unique opportunity to engage with both the relevant theoretical and the practical elements of the maritime industry. By visiting the International Maritime Organisation, engaging with various companies and networking events, and by writing my dissertation, I have been able to get first-hand experience and understand the challenges and potential opportunities of the maritime sector. All of these experiences have also helped me to build a rich and dynamic foundation for my future career.
