Zhi Xuan Ik

I am Ik Zhi Xuan, a fresh graduate with a Biomedical Science degree from La Trobe University. I am equipped with strong problem-solving, facilitating and management skills from the multiple leadership positions i have previously held. I am highly flexible and adaptable in different environments as I am an individual who is capable of working independently and also just as effectively in a team setting. I am passionate to work for a bigger cause which is to better the quality of life for mankind and bring technological advancement into healthcare and STEM sectors. I am very open and willing to learn the basic skills as well as further advanced skills from the company and I am very passionate in learning about the sourcing, management as well as the processes behind research equipment. I am excited to learn the process of manufacturing sectors, quality control and assurance through this position and I hope to gain real-world experience that will further propel me towards my career goal.

As a student leader who have previously held many leadership positions, I have worked with a huge variety of individuals with very different personalities and workstyles. Through the AEM Outdoor Education which where I learnt about team building as well as more recently, in La Trobe University, we had a career module which allowed the students to take the identi3 test which was a personality test focused on the career and workstyle aspects of an individual. I had learnt to work together and pick up good traits from groups of people. Via years of experience and also with the identi3 test, I was able to be more resourceful as I had a more accurate picture of my teammates and what their strengths and weaknesses were. I was able to capitalize on these experiences and allocated the team members respective jobs and sections that they would tend to excel in which allowed for more resourceful and strategic groupwork. For example, one of my teammates was an out-of-the-box thinker who excels in the English Language. When editing the final draft of our project, we asked him for constructive feedback which improved the overall grammar and flow of our project making it more comprehensible. On the other hand, I was able to get a grip of my personal weaknesses such as my lack of patience when it comes to keeping to deadlines but these stemmed from a place of fearing that the group would not be able to complete the task on time and more so to produce work of the highest possible quality. As a result, I managed to improve my tone of speech and even requested for the group to complete the whole project a few days prior to deadline so that I could do a content check-through and fact check which was also something I excelled in as the Identi3 test showed that I had high expectation for the quality of work produced.

Additionally, my most recent work experience at ANDSOFORTH as a service crew has further refined my interpersonal and leadership skills. I would always take it a step further to help those around me to complete the allocated tasks. On top of which, I could see my positive influence on the people around me as they start to help one another whenever they can instead of just doing their allocated work, bringing a sense of togetherness in the company. I was also able to promote more effective working methods like arrangement of the merchandise in a neat and orderly manner so that any other crew member who is tasked to manage the merchandise sales would be able to easily locate the items and and do inventory stock counting. I suggested this to my manager who approved of my methods and complimented me on my work performance and passion towards the things that I do. Likewise, I do believe that these transferable skills and personality traits that I possess will be a valuable addition to your company and I look forward to an opportunity to learn hard skills and contribute as a reliable and multi-faceted individual.
