To help students achieve these learning outcomes, SMU implements pedagogies that are personalised, interactive, experiential, and enabled by technology. The Centre for Teaching Excellence (CTE) supports SMU faculty members in delivering these pedagogies. We collaborate with the Provost Office, the Dean's Offices, the Office of Postgraduate Professional Programmes, the SMU-X team, the SMU Libraries, and the Integrated Information Technology Services to bring the best teaching practices to the largest number of faculty members and students.

    CTE plays a critical role in promoting and supporting teaching excellence at SMU. Teaching is an evolving profession. Hence CTE's mission is to engage, develop, and empower our faculty members to advance their teaching using evidence-based practices. To help identify and adopt such practices, we help to scan the environment, select good ideas, try them out together with interested instructors, and, when proven effective, make it easy for more instructors to adopt them. We also promote, distribute and support the best practices while monitoring outcomes and recognising and rewarding teaching excellence. In addition to our commitment to advancing teaching practices, CTE also undertakes education research projects as we are constantly examining the effectiveness of the pedagogical innovations created for the betterment of student learning.

    The Research Fellow/Research Associate will work closely with the Reporting Officer to support, manage and/or execute the project(s). The job scope involves:

    • Conducting scholarly reviews of the literature.
    • Collaborating with faculty members on education research projects.Developing faculty members' education research capabilities.
    • Undertaking pilot studies.Writing of proposals and concept papers to advance ideas and initiatives.
    • Assisting the researchers with the administrative management of the project.
    • Creating sharing platforms for disseminating findings of education research projects.
    • Other duties and responsibilities, as assigned.

    Qualifications

    • A Doctor of Philosophy/Master's degree in Educational Psychology/ Learning Sciences and Technology / Education or equivalent.
    • Strong knowledge and experience in education research methodologies, including the design/ use of relevant data collection instruments to monitor learning outcomes, evaluate effectiveness, and make adjustments to content/pedagogy.
    • Proficient in using relevant statistical software (e.g. SPSS) and survey tools (e.g. Qualtrics) and interpreting qualitative and quantitative findings.
    • Excellent written communication skills (demonstrated preferably through their written work).
    • Research experience, preferably in education or social science disciplines.
    • A motivated self-starter and team player with excellent interpersonal skills, and who is adaptable, resourceful and independent with a demonstrated interest in issues related to education.
