The Role

The Head of Compliance - Asia is responsible for the risk and compliance function across the Singapore, Hong Kong and Labuan branches of Berkley Insurance Company ("BIC"), supporting the business in achieving its corporate objectives, whilst maintaining legal and ethical integrity of the operations.

The role assists the business in ensuring its adherence to laws, regulations and internal policies.

The role also acts as a key contributor to the second line of defence in the risk control matrix and partners with the business in ensuring that the business remains compliant with its responsibilities and obligations.

Located in Singapore and reporting to the Regional Chief Risk Officer - Asia Pacific based in Sydney, the Head of Compliance - Asia will predominantly focus on the compliance and risk control matrices as they relate across the BIC Asia operations.

The role is a vital part of the regional Risk & Compliance team and will work closely with the Sydney based team in providing a strong and robust enterprise risk management and compliance function whilst promoting and exhibiting a highly regarded risk culture across the business.

This role mostly requires a qualitative approach based on broad experience to be applied to the BIC Asia operations to assist the business in running a compliance and risk profile that is in line with the risk appetite agreed by management.

This is a consultative role that provides support and structure to the management of all compliance risks across BIC Asia.

Key Responsibilities;

Ensure that the business complies with all BIC Asia related compliance matters.
Ensure that the governance structure, compliance and risk systems and procedures are aligned with regulatory compliance requirements.
Assist in the evaluation of the adequacy and effectiveness of the risk management framework.
Assist in completing quarterly controls testing as required by the BIC Group's SOX testing requirements.
Assist in the formulation of risk processes, policies and standards.
Prepare BIC Asia risk related risk reports for the BIC APAC Risk, Operations & Compliance Committee.
Ensure the BIC Group sanctions regime is implemented effectively across the BIC Asia operating units.
Degree qualified in a finance, legal or risk related discipline
5+ years in (re)insurance industry experience with a focus on risk and compliance management.
Clear understanding of the insurance regulatory and compliance environment across the Asia region
Excellent communications skills
Proven influencer skills at all levels
Able to work in an autonomous role with minimum supervision
