[What the role is]


The ISEAS - Yusof Ishak Institute is a leading research centre dedicated to the study of socio-political, security and economic trends and developments in Southeast Asia and its wider geostrategic and economic development.


Applications are invited for:
Sub-Editor/Editor, Fulcrum

The Fulcrum sub-editor will work with the editorial team to publish commentaries on the ISEAS analysis website:


Fulcrum, established in November 2020, has become a leading analysis website on Southeast Asian geopolitics, economy and culture, and the environment.

It features commentaries and essays by ISEAS researchers and external contributors. Since its founding, Fulcrum has attracted a growing readership from Southeast Asia and beyond. On a rolling 12-month basis, the website attracted a million views in 2023.

[What you will be working on]


Responsibilities:


  • Edit/ assist in editing commentaries (includes spellchecking, copyediting and sensechecking)
  • Proofread edited copy
  • Serve as Fulcrum's workflow controller and coordinator
  • Maintain Fulcrum's house style according to the inhouse guide
  • Search for appropriate images to be featured in commentaries
  • Write appropriate captions for images
  • Perform plagiarism checks using software like Grammarly
  • Manage and renew subscription contracts with news photography companies
  • Bonus: Conceptualise and create charts and infographics, using specialist software when needed
  • For podcasts: Coordinate podcast equipment setup, liaise with interviewer and interviewees, and edit audio and video recordings for upload.
[What we are looking for]


Requirements:


  • Excellent editorial and factchecking skills
  • Familiarity with web content management systems
  • Experience with Excel and other chartproducing software
  • Photo, audio and video editing skills will be a plus
  • Keen research interest in Southeast Asian affairs
  • Good analytical, organisational, and writing skills
  • Motivated selfstarter and must possess team spirit and initiative
  • Good academic record; own singleauthored academic publications are a plus
  • Able to thrive in a fastpaced environment working in a dynamic team
