At the beginning of 2017 we opened our new, state of the art, Singapore Technology Centre in Science Park I, minutes from Singapore's technology and start-up community. This new Technology Centre houses some of Dyson's most advanced facilities including Robotics and Sensors laboratories and Smart Home, Connectivity & Mobile Applications laboratories as well as an Advanced Control Tower with the latest technology to develop its analytics-driven activities.

Role Overview

The Senior Manager, Assembly and Formation, Energy Storage, shall lead the manufacturing process definition, and industrialization, including brown and or green field start-up, and hand over to general management operations within the factory once full ramped to sustaining operations. The successful candidate shall work closely with Research Design & Development (RDD) engineering, facilities, equipment suppliers, and other, to define the specifications required for manufacturing of battery cell and battery pack manufacturing. This position specializes in Cell Assembly, Formation, and Battery Pack Assembly processes which play a crucial role in the production and optimization of batteries. The Cell Assembly involves tab welding, electrolyte filling and vacuum sealing.The Formation process involves charging and discharging batteries to activate and stabilize their performance characteristics, with a detail-oriented mindset and focus on quality, accuracy, and adherence to protocols. The Battery Pack Assembly involves cell stacking, welding, BMS mounting and final assembly.This role is expected to lead the team of Manufacturing Engineers to design, implement, and improve the Assembly and Formation procedures to achieve the final product design specifications, as well as quality, yield, safety and reliability. Additionally, the role shall deliver a value driven manufacturing engineering strategy, ensuring the most efficient and most sustainable investment return for Dyson. The role is based in South East Asia, leveraging Dyson's production equipment suppliers to mass produce the Dyson's energy storage solutions, meeting compliance with environmental, health, and safety guidelines.

About the role:

• Bachelor's or higher degree in mechanical, electrical, materials, chemical engineering or other relevant fields.

• Minimum 12 years of experience in advanced manufacturing engineering, high volume manufacturing organization preferably with high precision automated manufacturing exposure.

• At least 5 years in a senior leadership role in factory operations or mass production environment.

• Strong knowledge on battery assembly manufacturing, or other equivalent experience in battery manufacturing, with solid understanding of battery chemistry, electrochemical principles, and formation processes.

• Familiarity with battery testing equipment, data acquisition systems, and process automation is beneficial.

• In-depth knowledge in capital manufacturing equipment, metrology, testers, instrumentation, data analytics, PLC, automation scripting, and/or software.

• Experience in new product transition to manufacturing and industrialization process involving concepts and feasibilities, pilot lines and manufacturing scale up validation testing.

• Strong cross functional people and management experience in a fast-paced technology. environment, developing novel process and test methods.

• New factory start-up experience is preferable.

• Track record with strategy for mass production operational excellence, complying to regulatory requirements, utility efficiency, and environment sustainability.

• Strong people management and project management skills.

• Experience in operating and developing an automated production system and process for ensuring a value driven maximum ROI at minimum CAPEX cost.

• Experience in managing CAPEX budgets and selecting and approving suppliers for procurement purposes.

• Strong background in 6 Sigma / data-based analysis of process performances preferable.

• Proven track record delivering results under pressure, with compressed development schedules .

• Experience in automating solutions for mass production efficiency (Robotics, AIV/AGV, Material Handling Automation).

• Strong background in test methodology, measurement system analysis (GR&R) including statistical process control and process capability / characterization

• Preferable experience in Design for Manufacturing (DFM) methodology

• Industry 4.0 and Digitalisation experience (Digital Twin, Tecnomatix Simulation, MES, Big Data etc.)

• Sound knowledge and track record in automation equipment safety (CE marking / safety circuits) and hazardous material handling (familiarity with ATEX, SCDF, NEA, MOM, etc. regulations).

• Willing to travel 10-30% time during new product transition and supplier engagement periods.
