    Description

    Responsibilities

    The Commercial Apps team is a new team that aims to help generate revenue and support key customers while working on the newest and most innovative of our released technology. We expect the team to continue to grow which puts the successful candidate in a position to gain more responsibility and grow as a leader and strategic thinker. Specifically, the Commercial Applications team carries out bespoke pilot projects for potential customers to demonstrate the quality and benefits of Nanopore sequencing to drive new customer acquisition and support sales in the APAC region. Furthermore, the team uses their expertise in Nanopore sequencing and data analysis to support existing key customers in carrying out high-impact projects. The types of projects will cover the full range of existing and new applications of Nanopore's sequencing platform including DNA and transcriptomics sequencing. The candidate will work in close collaboration with the commercial and technical support teams to identify suitable opportunities based on commercial impact as well as scientific and technological feasibility. Furthermore, the candidate will be responsible for planning, prioritizing, and coordinating the timely execution of these projects. This will include line managing bioinformaticians and wet lab scientists as well as hands-on analysis if necessary. Finally, the candidate will be responsible for summarizing and communicating the results to internal stakeholders and to the respective customers.

    Duties

    • Evaluate, plan, prioritize, and coordinate experiments and data analysis for bespoke pilot projects for new customers as well as to support existing customers.

    • Lead and line-manage bioinformaticians as well as wet-lab scientists and enable them to collaborate effectively. This includes providing technical expertise, project management, guidance, and mentorship.

    • Keep abreast of developments in the application of sequence data to problems in academic research, healthcare, and other industries.

    • Provide input on feasibility and expected timelines to aid prioritization of customer-related projects.

    • Communicate requirements, results, problems as well possible next steps to internal stakeholders including commercial teams and R&D as well as to customers directly.

    • Work on development of protocols and pipelines for analysis of applications of DNA, cDNA, and direct RNA sequencing using ONT's nanopore sensing platform

    • Interact with scientists, data analysts, and bioinformaticians in the company, to utilize and adapt their protocols, tools, and latest developments.

    • Any other duties as might be required within the remit and responsibilities of the post.

    Requirements


    • PhD in molecular biology / genetics / genomics / bioinformatics / or related field

    • Successful postdoc in molecular biology / genetics / genomics / bioinformatics / or related field or biotechnology industry experience


    • Track record of successful and well-recognized scientific leadership in industry in an NGS / genomics-related role

    • Experience with planning, leading and prioritizing projects

    • Experience with managing a small team (2-3 people) including training and development of junior team members

    • Proven record of delivering projects and/or products on time

    • Track record of successfully performing of leading a team performing appropriate bioinformatics sequence analyses for a range of different kinds of project

    • Practical experience of handling and analyzing large data sets and working closely with lab scientists to continually refine the experimental and analytical approaches

    • Hands on wet lab experience or a track record of interaction with wet lab scientists
