    Roles & Responsibilities

    JOB SUMMARY

    Reporting to the Associate Director, Finance, the Accountant will be responsible for month-end close and balance sheet management process, statutory and financial reporting, and ensuring the maintenance of strong internal controls. In performing the duties, legal regulations, GAAP as well as operating procedures of Marriott Vacation Club International (MVCI) must be complied.

    Position requires strong collaboration with other team members and other departments in ensuring the day-to-day accounting functions under the Accountant's responsibility are operating smoothly.

    CORE WORK ACTIVITIES

    1. Accounting and Month End Close Execution

    • Prepare standard journal entries with correct PeopleSoft GL string and project ID.
    • Ensure all accruals, amortizations and period close journal entries are prepared accurately and on a timely manner.
    • Analyze monthly financials variances against prior month or prior quarter, forecast and budget.
    • Work with Asia Pacific (AP) finance and US team to resolve accounting discrepancies and implement process improvements around the month-end close process.
    • Ensure all financial closing timelines are met.
    • Ensure overall processing integrity and accuracy.
    • Support business partners in addressing their queries and needs.
    • Assist in processing refunds in payment platforms and other payments where required

    2. Balance Sheet Reconciliation

    • Prepare schedules and reconciliation to support balance sheet positions.
    • Ensure all balance sheet reconciliations are supported with adequate documentation.
    • Understand the nature of transactions in the reconciliations and investigate irregularities.
    • Ensure all issues identified during the reconciliation review process are clear in the next reporting period.
    • Record reconciling entries resulting from reconciliation.

    3. Inter-company and International Billings

    • Check that inter-company billings are valid and well supported.
    • Challenge billings that are incorrect, invalid or not adequately supported.
    • Raise inter-company recharges and book billing to correct operating unit and account code.
    • Confirm, reconcile and settle intercompany balances monthly.

    4. Statutory Reporting

    • Prepare statutory reporting deliverables for audit, tax and others accurately and timely.
    • Assist in completion of statutory reporting for entities under your responsibility area within timelines: Audit (including drafting of financial statements and local statutory filing).
    • Ensure clear reconciliation and documentation between management accounts (US GAAP) and local statutory accounts.
    • Prepare and ensure GST/VAT filing and withholding Tax filing are filed as per the statutory deadline
    • Assist in annual corporate income tax filing
    • Assist with statutory audit and SOX compliance
    • Assist quarterly MVWP-66 balance sheet certification for the region.

    5. Cash management

    • Manage cashflow requirements of your responsible entities.
    • Coordinate funding requirements with Corporate Treasury and other Controllership teams to ensure optimal use of cash.

    6. Ad Hoc Support and Requests:

    • It is foreseeable that this job could take on more duties are required, in general accounting.
    • Provide backup support for other Controllership team members who are unavailable, in critical areas to ensure continuity in Controllership functions.
    • Develop and update SOPs/Job Aids regularly.
    • Assist in formulating processes and SOPs, if needed.
    • Perform other analysis as required by the business.
    • Participate in finance projects as the business requires.
    • Inform and/or update finance manager and peers on relevant information in a timely manner.
    • Assist on other accounting/internal controls work as required by the business.
    • Demonstrate a high level of professionalism always.

    CANDIDATE PROFILE

    • Diploma / Degree / Professional Qualification in Accounting with at least 3-year post-qualification experience, preferably in US MNCs/audit.
    • Solid functional background in General Ledger Accounting.
    • Experience with balance sheet reconciliations.
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications especially Excel.
    • Team player with ability to build and maintain good rapport with all levels of associates and to collaborate with functional departments and external partners.
    • Well-organized, meticulous and capable of managing multiple priorities effectively
    • Motivated self-starter, resourceful, independent and good problem-solving skills.
    • Strong business integrity and holds sensitive information in confidence
    • Understands and possesses the ability to work in a multi-cultural environment
    • Ability to be flexible with job duties and scope of work
    • Enthusiastic individual with excellent organizational and communicational skills and attention to detail
