    What you will do

    The Senior Technical Engineer (Gas Processing / Distillation / Energy) has the responsibility to support ongoing operations of their assigned business unit (s), as well as support similar unit operations if needed. The role is located in the Singapore ExxonMobil Manufacturing Complex and primarily focuses on non-routine and medium-to long-range objectives including but not limited to the following: troubleshooting complex unit problems, leading improvement initiatives, and providing technical reviews of process safety studies. The Senior Engineer also plays a key role in training and mentoring Junior Engineers.

    The key deliverables include:

  • Participates in the local Unit Operations Team: Proactively identifies issues prior to operations impact
  • Provides leadership and support for other technical contacts in Business Team through coaching and mentoring
  • Leads troubleshooting efforts for complex unit problems and organize resolution of technical issues
  • Leads and/or participates in incident investigation teams
  • Interfaces with external organizations (Engineering, Technology)
  • Initiates, supports and champions technically advanced solutions / developments in the process area
  • Maintains cross-department / division relationships by understanding inter-unit interactions
  • Provides technical reviews of special unit ops / events, unit operating changes / projects, process operating envelopes, equipment strategies, etc.
  • Identifies unit improvement ideas to meet site initiatives (energy, reliability, costs, etc.)
  • Conducts relevant field inspections including vessels and exchangers during unit shutdowns or at vendors' workshop
  • Coordinates inputs of technical components into corporate plans – chemical / catalyst / utility expenditures, unit run-lengths etc.
  • Leads the development and implementation of improvement projects to support site initiatives
  • Provides technical review of process safety studies for the local site such as HAZOPs, Safety Relief Review (SRRs), Layers of Protection Analysis (LOPAs), etc.
  • Provides consulting on process safety for the unit
  • Shares safety learnings
  • Develops expertise for long-term continuity for the manufacturing business

    Skills and Qualifications

  • (or higher) degree in Chemical Engineering or equivalent, required
  • 10+ years of related industry experience with 5+ in the relevant Energy / Gas Processing / Distillation space
  • Demonstrated design experience – participation in early stage engineering and late stage project startup activities
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Capable of working independently and achieving high standards
  • Demonstrated ability of working with / leading teams and achieving high standards
  • High level of integrity
  • Mentor / role model for setting high work standards and business ethics
  • Good leadership qualities; and ability to influence without authority
