Duties:


This position is located in the Department of Homeland Security, Office of the Chief Information Officer, Anywhere in the U.S.

(remote job).

The primary purpose of this position is performing highly technical work across the DHS enterprise to address the Department's most complex and consequential information and data challenges.


Duties performed:

  • Serves as the principal architect of Data Program products and services, providing related expert consultation in data architecture, data integration, warehousing, and security, and analytical concepts and methodologies across the DHS Enterprise.
  • Serves as a data scientist and works to extract meaning from and interpret data to address complex and consequential homeland securityrelated challenges.
  • Develops, integrates, and maintains data and extract transform and load (ETL) procedures to ensure the integrity and efficiency of data interchanges.
  • Builds ontologies and analytic models from large volumes of historical data, deploys them for business consumption to deliver on
business outcomes, monitors their accuracy to prevent data drift, and evaluates models for bias and unintended consequences.

Qualifications:


Applicants must demonstrate that they meet the Basic Requirements AND Minimum Qualification/Specialized Experience requirements as noted below.

Basic Requirement:

A.

Possession of a Bachelor's or higher degree in mathematics, statistics, computer science, data science or a field directly related to the position.

The degree must be in a major field of study (at least at the baccalaureate level) that is appropriate for the position.


  • OR
B. Possession of a combination of education and experience.

This is defined as courses equivalent to a major field of study (30 semester hours) as shown in paragraph A above, plus additional education or appropriate experience.

Specialized Experience:

GS-13:You must have at least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-12 level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors) performing the following duties:

  • 1) analyzing data to identify patterns and trends, and interpret the data to discover solutions and opportunities;
  • 2) assisting with identifying and evaluating new technology solutions for improving data collection and use; and
  • 3) collecting, cleaning, and validating large data sets to ensure accuracy, completeness, and uniformity.

GS-14:

You must have at least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-13 level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors) performing the following duties:

  • 1) utilizing statistical methods while leveraging machine learning and artificial intelligence to speed the analytical process;
  • 2) analyzing data to identify patterns and trends, and interpret the data to discover solutions and opportunities;
  • 3) identifying and evaluating new technology solutions for improving data collection and use; andNOTE: Your resume must explicitly indicate how you meet this requirement, otherwise you will be found ineligible.
