APAC Business Development Leader - Alternative Fuels & Mobility


Formative Search has begun an exclusive partnership with the Alternative Fuels and Mobility business in Singapore with one of the world's largest energy majors.

They have asked for our support in securing an APAC BD Leader who can lead the new build out of industry solutions in line with their broader global energy transition plans.


Responsibilities of the APAC BD Leader

  • Develop the specific business development strategy for the assigned focus area / channel / stream / business model for both core and diversified business opportunities.
  • These focus areas may include the development of an APAC or multi country Service and Maintenance offer utilising partners (including battery swapping, EV charging, alternative fuels) and partnerships for integration business development opportunities.
  • Understand the market trends of evolving disruption and innovation, whilst building a wide connection with industrial and external stakeholders to help identify and initiate the opportunities to create new space for growth.
  • Lead assigned projects while working with cross functional and cross market teams to develop new opportunities and deliver specific projects.
  • Identify the sources of value and develop the commercial term sheets for internal review and negotiation with potential partners.
  • Engage and communicate with potential partners, leading and participating in deal negotiations but also managing the complexity and uncertainty of business development and recommend solutions and options.
  • Leading cross functional teams including sales, marketing, and operations across multiple markets.
  • Work collaboratively with a wide range of internal stakeholders including all Country leads and teams, marketing, central teams, regions Cities & Solutions, Ventures and other parties as requested.

Requirements of the APAC BD Leader

  • Show the ability to plan and direct the cross functional teams engaged in specific projects and determine the deployment of any additional resources assigned to the team.
  • Has a minimum bachelor's degree from an accredited university, and ideally an MBA.
  • Significant relevant business experience leading in a matrix organization with a strong track record in delivery of business development.
  • The ability to negotiate for long term partnerships and with a demonstrated experience in leading high value partnership contracts, especially in SE Asia.
  • Operational experience in a B2C or DODO (Dealer Owned Dealer Operated) environment.
  • Advanced knowledge of a technical discipline with wide understanding of broader market trends.
  • Maintains a good network of local resources to develop business opportunities through both organic and inorganic approaches, whilst navigating complex customer interfaces.
  • Deep experience developing and working with partnerships to create offers and value for both parties.
  • Familiar with digital and ecommerce business models in a B2C environment and working in rapidly changing environments.
  • Handson skills in planning and executing new business initiatives with a strong capability managing negotiations at the senior to executive level.
  • Strong communication and influence skills, and the comfort in operating across emerging markets.
