Outdoor Education Specialist ( Dover Campus / East Campus )
UWCSEA has vacancies for August 2023 for an Outdoor Education Specialist. This is a dual campus role supporting students from both East and Dover Campus.


The Outdoor Education Specialists are responsible for design and delivery of the Outdoor Education programme K-12 during term time and high school expeditions during some of the school holidays.


The Outdoor Education department supports an articulated programme ensuring successful curriculum-based, interdisciplinary experiential learning activities and expeditions, on campus, local to Singapore and overseas.


We are looking to fill 3 vacancies on a local contract: two of them are two year contracts and one, a single year contract with further opportunity for extension by mutual agreement and/ or department requirements.

Applicants with less experience or qualifications may be considered for Outdoor Education Specialist Development Pathway (*see below)


Main Responsibilities

  • Outdoor Education Specialists are expected to lead students on residential expeditions and create memorable experiences by allowing students to take on experiential challenges that build resilience, collaboration, leadership skills and connection to nature.
  • Demonstrate competencies and conducting adventure activities such as camp craft, mountaineering, trekking, climbing, sea and whitewater kayaking, and dinghy sailing.
  • Be able to diligently and confidently attend to wilderness first aid and child safeguarding situations during expeditions and subsequent reporting.
  • Delivering day sessions to students eg. High Ropes Course, Expedition Training, Kayaking.
  • Curriculum development, officebased planning and preparation for expeditions including liaising with thirdparty providers, reviewing/developing Standard Operating Procedures, and maintaining equipment
  • Duties will require a flexible and creative approach and will include working with K12 students.

Person Specifications

  • A good Degree and a recognized teaching qualification or relevant certifications is preferred.
  • A minimum of five years experience teaching Outdoor Education/ Adventure based learning. For Development Pathway At least 2 years experience and First Aid Certificate [Current Validity]
  • Desirable National Governing Body (NGB) Qualifications or equivalent experience in a range of activities/ skills such as:
Wilderness Advanced First Aid

Powerboat Driver or Safety Boat

Dinghy Sailing Instructor

Kayak Coach / White Water and/or Sea Kayak Leader

Raft Guide

White Water Rescue Technician

Mountain Leader

Cycling/Mountain Biking Instructor

Climbing Instructor

Ropes Course Instructor

Caving Instructor

National Youth Achievement Award or Duke of Edinburgh International Award Assessor

Able to train and assess National Governing Body Awards

  • Available, fit and willing to travel on overseas expeditions approximately 20 weeks per year.
  • Expectations include enthusiastic participation in Professional Learning.
  • A commitment to diversity and inclusion is essential alongside a willingness to adapt and develop pedagogy to meet the needs of our learners.
  • Experienced Instructors with experience travelling to various destinations in SE Asia and beyond is desirable.
  • DBS Check (Criminal Records Bureau) or equivalent.
  • Experience of Child Safeguarding practices.
  • Selfmotivated, well organized, computer literate, conscientious, and resilient.
  • Previous experience working with UWCSEA students is an advantage.

Outdoor Education Specialist Development Pathway


As an Outdoor Education Specialist Development Pathway you will be required to work alongside experienced Outdoor Education Specialists to develop necessary skills, knowledge and experience to be confident and competent in all aspects of the responsibilities of the role described below.

We offer a single year local contract with further opportunity for extension by mutual agreement and/ or department requirements.


Year on Year the Outdoor Education Specialist Development Pathway will build on the various key aspects of Outdoor Education in the College: Leading students on residential expeditions, conducting adventure activities, diligently and confidently attend to wilderness first aid, delivering day sessions to students, administrative and reporting activities and working collaboratively with team members.
