Overview
The role of the Assistant Technical Superintendent encompasses representing the owner's interests in relation to the assigned vessels.

This involves maintaining a high standard of machinery and equipment upkeep to minimize vessel downtime, operate within budget constraints, and preserve the value of the owner's assets.

Duties include monitoring day-to-day operations, assessing maintenance procedures, managing budgets and operational expenses, and conducting onsite visits to vessels.

This position necessitates frequent travel to the vessels and entails overseeing a specific set of vessels as designated by the technical head, while also reporting to them.


Main Responsibilities

  • Ensuring the safe, efficient, and environmentally conscious operation of the vessels assigned.
  • Ensuring compliance with all relevant rules and regulations, particularly the ISM code, flag state, port state, and industryspecific requirements and regulations, and providing support to ships as needed.
  • During the absence of the line manager, monitoring and following up on important matters and updating the immediate reporting line manager.
  • Providing support for technical operations as required.
  • Maintaining technical statistics.
  • Addressing additional duties determined during the annual employee dialogue.
  • Analyzing and responding to undesirable events.
  • Assisting the assigned vessels in preparing for internal/external audits and PSC inspections.
  • Conducting visits to the vessel to assess vessel condition and staff onboard.
  • Compiling reports of inspections and findings.
  • Organizing management reviews and ensuring the implementation of agreedupon actions.
  • Monitoring and following up with technical managers on technical matters related to the ships.
  • Preparing and planning for ships' takeover and related arrangements.
  • Ensuring the documentation and timely submission of weekly, monthly, and quarterly reports from technical managers overseeing the assigned ships.
  • Checking and monitoring technical managers' budgets and actual expenditures, documenting any deviations.
  • Verifying nonbudget costs and discrepancies.
  • Assisting with ship repairs and services as needed, coordinating with technical managers.
  • Monitoring ships' and machinery performances in terms of efficiency and preventive maintenance systems (PMS).
  • Ensuring that vessel documentation and certificates are up to date for trade.
  • Conducting screenings of senior officers as proposed by technical managers and conducting owner briefings prior to their joining.
  • Managing regular reports from the vessels assigned and maintaining structured filing.
  • Reviewing and following up on routine reports from the vessels and managers.
  • Conducting regular data analysis of costs, PMS, and other key performance indicators (KPIs) to assess the health of ship management.
  • Undertaking any other technicalrelated assignments as required and assigned by the line technical manager.

Qualifications

  • Technical/maritime qualifications, preferably with seagoing experience on bulk carriers as Chief or Second Engineer/Master OR a degree in naval architecture or marine engineering with relevant office experience handling dry bulk vessels (with cranes).
  • Proficiency in both oral and written English.
  • Standard computer skills.
  • Strong environmental focus.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Good interpersonal skills for fostering close relationships with shipboard staff, vessel technical managers, operation managers, as well as internal and external support functions.
  • Familiarity with PMS and SMS systems.
