Description

The purpose of the job is to provide scientific evidence in the specialized food safety area (Organic Contaminants) through research and developmental work, risk assessment, regulatory testing, and focus studies to ensure a supply of safe food for Singapore.


The scope of the work mainly covers:

  • Development of new test methods for monitoring of new and emerging organic contaminants in food with safety concerns.
  • Conducting data analysis and science-based risk assessment to support risk management, risk communication, food safety policy formulation, regulation standard setting, regulatory sampling and testing program review.
  • Evaluation of new technologies to enhance the team's technical capabilities on organic contaminants monitoring.
  • Collaborating with domain-leading partners on R&D projects to address issues from organic contaminations in food.
  • Having scientific publications on research outcomes and test findings at relevant professional forums.
Working together with other team members to ensure smooth laboratory operation:

  • Conducting efficient and reliable laboratory analysis of organic contaminants in food under the requirements of ISO/IEC 17025 to support regulatory and market monitoring program.
  • Maintaining the laboratory Quality System, preparing method and equipment SOPs and quality documents, ensuring lab safety and security.
  • Conducting equipment (e.g. GC-MS/MS, LC-MS/MS, ) maintenance, calibration and performance checks
  • Procuring lab supplies and analytical equipment

Qualifications/ Other Requirements

  • Minimum a postgraduate such as a MSc or PhD degree in chemistry and relevant fields such as analytical chemistry, food science and organic chemistry.
  • Prior experiences with food safety related research and/or laboratory diagnostic work, and/or instrumentation operation such as Gas and Liquid Chromatography and Mass spectrometry, good knowledge statistics in analytical chemistry, and/or with publications on peerreviewed scientific journals, will be an advantage.
  • Prior experiences with ISO/IEC 17025:2017 laboratory quality system and the SAC-SINGLAS accreditation matters will be an advantage.
  • Highly selfmotivated, proactive and resourceful.
  • Able to work independently, and in a team.
  • Strong presentation, writing and communication skills.
  • Computer proficiency with commonly used software like MS Words, Excel and Powerpoint is a must. Knowledge and skills on data analytics and database management will be an advantage.
