Our Energy Storage Development (ESD) team are responsible for new battery technology that will deliver significantly better performance than conventional battery cells.

About the role:

We are looking for a highly motivated and detail-oriented Principal Engineer - Data Science to drive and shape the data science capabilities within the wider Energy Storage organization.

As a Principal Engineer within ESD, you are recognized as the technical authority for data science.

You will amalgamate existing data science expertise with your newly-acquired knowledge on lithium-ion cell design/manufacturing, delivering fresh insights that accelerate the design process and improve cell performance.

To support the design and manufacturing of the Dyson Designed Cell, we are concurrently standing up a cross functional group to deliver a smart factory platform to operationalize data science and supply class-leading intelligence.

You will be a key member of this group, providing technical guidance and leadership to the data scientists and data analysts in this group.

You will be a Principal Data Scientist in ESD and be based in Singapore.
You will be a data science champion, proliferating data science practices across the team and embedding data science techniques in everyday engineering.
You will be a technical pioneer, not only leading and delivering diverse, impactful data science projects within ESD, but also offering consultancy to both upstream (Energy Storage Research) and downstream (Energy Storage Operations) data science teams, being a sparring partner to them, and supplementing their use case approaches with cutting edge techniques.
You will build up an intimate knowledge of the battery design and manufacturing process, spending time with engineers in the lab or on the production floor to better understand the challenges.
You will work with ESD engineers to integrate data science models with traditional engineering models, to speed up the process and to generate new insights.
You will lead the response to complex business challenges beyond what business intelligence teams are capable of today.
You will architect, build and deploy predictive models using the myriad data sources available at Dyson, and enriching these with the creative sourcing of external data.
Cutting edge approaches are key to keeping pace with Dyson's innovative culture: you will be a thought leader in your area, propagating insights around industry trends and emerging technologies and methodologies throughout the organisation.

You'll also need to be/have:

Strong and demonstrable realworld experience of delivering tangible business value through data science models.
Excellent business acumen you are someone who can quickly absorb a new domain, and recognise what problems are most valuable for our stakeholders.
Recognises the value of well commented, elegant, and testdriven code and demonstrate this in your work.
A scientific and rigorous approach to solving practical problems using logical thinking.
Strong core knowledge of applied machine learning supplemented with a robust statistical background.
Handson experience with leveraging data from a wide selection of data sources from different technologies e.g., SQL, BigQuery etc.
Finds the possibility of working closely in a squad with data architects, cloud enablers, data engineers and DevOps practitioners exciting.
Keen understanding of data models and ETL processes. Using primarily Python and supplementing this with Tableau or Looker where necessary, you are able to analyse, model, and visualise data effectively.
