    Description

    RMO Material Science Laboratory's primary mission is to provide analytical test solutions to enable media and on product yield, quality, and reliability. The team also serves a critical role on HDM tribology, contamination, and defect reduction, working closely with and enabling other functions in the disciplines of Mechanical, Electrical, Recording Technology, R&D, Customer Integration, and Manufacturing. This role will report to an Engineering Manager

    About the role - you will:

  • Engage in material characterization metrology, including Ellipsometer Spectroscopic, Raman Spectroscopy, X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy, and Scanning Electron Microscopy.
  • Collaborate on team focusing to support measurement focus on media Carbon overcoat characterization.
  • Conduct material science lab testing, operate analytical instruments, and analyze thin film material properties.
  • Provide technical and engineering support, contributing to the successful completion of complex analytical projects.
  • What You Will Learn and Embark on at the Start:

  • You will gain hands-on experience in state-of-the-art material science technologies and methodologies.
  • Develop skills in operating advanced laboratory instruments and in the analysis and characterization of materials.
  • Learn to navigate and contribute to multidisciplinary projects, enhancing your collaborative and technical abilities.
  • What You Will Ultimately Be Proficient In:

  • Material characterization techniques and their application in real-world scenarios.
  • Developing and complex analytical projects from conception to completion.
  • Effectively communicating and translating technical concepts to a diverse range of internal and external partners.
  • About you:

  • A proactive self-starter, adaptable to dynamic environments.
  • Ability to communicate engineering and technical concepts to internal and external partners.
  • A team player, adept at collaborating with cross-functional and international teams.
  • Able to commit a credit bearing internship from July to December
  • Your experience includes:

  • Currently pursuing PHD, Master or bachelor's degree in Material Science, Physics, or a related field.
  • Foundational knowledge in thin film material characterization techniques.
  • Familiarity with analytical lab instruments and statistical analysis is an advantage.
  • Experience in programming languages (e.g., MATLAB, Python, SQL, JMP) and proficiency in data analysis and Six Sigma methodologies is preferred.

    Our Woodlands site is one of the largest electronics manufacturing sites in Singapore, housing our recording media operations.
