- Participate in and manage the research project with the Principal Investigator (PI), Co-PI and the research team members to ensure all project deliverables are met.
- Undertake these responsibilities in the project:
i. Execute all experiments (e.g. foam stability test, slump test etc.) reliably.
ii. Liaise with the industry partner and agency to plan and execute the field trials.
iii. Develop the framework for effective soil conditioning in local soils.
iv. Design the SCET equipment and liaise with vendors in its manufacture and assembly.
v. Validate the framework and SCET using findings from field tests.
vi. Mentor and provide technical guidance to student assistants involved in the research project. - Carry out Risk Assessments, and ensure compliance with Work, Safety and Health Regulations.
- Coordinate procurement and liaise with vendors/suppliers.
- Work independently, as well as within a team, to ensure proper operation and maintenance of the equipment.
- Have relevant competence in the areas of geotechnical experimental investigations and soil conditioning used in tunnelling.
- Prior experience in basic soil characterization and knowledge in basic soil mechanics is required.
- Have a degree in civil engineering. Possessing a Master's or PhD degree will be advantageous
- Knowledge of physical modelling will be advantageous.
- Able to build and maintain strong working relationships with research team members and our industry collaborators.
- Self-directed learner who can perform an independent literature review and propose innovative experimental/physical modelling techniques, where applicable.
- Proficient in technical writing and presentation.
- Possess strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
- Show strong initiative and take ownership of work.
- Leadership qualities through effective mentoring/guiding of students.
