- Processes tissue specimens for microscopic examination and diagnosis by using appropriate methods for fixing, embedding, sectioning, staining, and mounting. Reviews methods and implements changes if required.
- Prepares reagents and stains to meet departmental quality standards.
- Consults with Pathologists regarding difficult analysis or abnormal findings. Maintains open communication with supervisors, pathologists, and co-workers.
- Develops a high level of proficiency. Updates knowledge through literature and available resources. Participates in examinations to test proficiency.
- Provides and records instrument Preventative Maintenance. Troubleshoots instrumentation monitors quality control of staining/processing methods, use alternate methods when appropriate, and refers problems to supervisor or pathologist as needed.
- Practices strict adherence to standard operating procedures, laboratory safety, and infection control policies.
- Performs immunohistochemical testing and related procedures including Immunofluorescence and Immunoperoxidase procedures. Provides proper labeling and storage of all reagents.
- Ensures accurate patient information, and accession numbers.
- Cleans laboratory glass and plastic ware as needed, adhering to defined procedures of cleaning.
- Resolves discrepancies or omissions in patient/clinical information.
- Performs other assigned duties as instructed or required
