What the role is

  • The Strategic Communications team drives the strategic narrative and content for NYC initiatives. We develop integrated communications strategies to achieve these outcomes increase mindshare of NYC and its divisions and engage youths and stakeholders through content that resonates with our target audiences.

As the amplifiers for NYC, we plan and manage the public relations, marketing and digital engagement efforts to effectively communicate NYC's vision and outcomes to the public.


What you will be working on

  • As Manager/Assistant Manager for Strategic Communications (Content ), you will assist the content lead in developing an innovative and integrated content strategy, to ensure quality and shareworthy online content, while ensuring alignment to our overall brand message for NYC's firststop youth portal, Youthopia.

On a daily basis, you will conceptualise and create original editorial and video content for the digital channels you manage, for a wide range of audiences - from youths and young working adults to the public.

You will also supervise a team of youth content contributors, and mentor them from content ideation to content production. You will also manage and work closely with external vendors to drive larger content campaigns for the Youthopia platform.

You will work closely with our content marketing team to track channel performance and content resonance and generate regular content and engagement insight reports.

To be effective in this role, you are well plugged in to the youth scene and you can catch up with trends as quickly as they evolve.

  • A talented and youthful individual who works well in a fastpaced content creation environment. You should be independent and at the same time, you value teamwork and are excited to learn from others.
  • A digital native whose life is so intricately woven with social media that a day unplugged is unthinkable. You are constantly brimming with ideas for new digital content. But ordinary content will not do. You are not satisfied until you are convinced your idea will go viral and break the internet.
  • A prolific writer with a knack for creative angling. You are resourceful and have no qualms putting in extensive legwork for a good story. You are meticulous with an eye for detail, and you know what works better as a story, a Facebook post, an Instagram story or a video. You are versatile and able to tailor compelling content for multiple formats and channels, for a range of audiences.
  • An effective listener and negotiator with strong project management skills, who is able to manage both internal and external stakeholders. Even when faced with tight deadlines and challenging requests, you remain unfazed. You probe until you can simplify and explain complex issues to others, before turning them into opportunities for the digital channels you manage.


Most importantly, you believe there is value in our youth, and want to help them get connected to opportunities that enrich them and amplify their voices, so they get heard.


Requirements:


  • Background in Media and Communications or its equivalent
  • At least 35 years of relevant work experiences in journalism, digital content creation, or similar
  • Passionate about youth issues and keen interest to mentor youth content creators
  • Possess a keen news sense and ability to think out of the box to engage different audiences through creative means
  • Familiarity with content central management systems, SEO, web and social media analytics is preferred
  • Strong working knowledge of editorial processes, copyediting, design, photography, photoediting, video production and videoediting
