NLCS (Singapore) is looking for enthusiastic, highly qualified and inspirational
Assistant Teachers for an August 2023 start. Our Assistant Teachers form an essential part of our educational team.

In regular curriculum time they support the teaching and learning that is directed by the Class Teacher, but they also take responsibility for the planning and teaching of our Mandarin Programme, under the guidance of an experienced whole-school Head of Mandarin.

Successful applicants will need to be well qualified and highly committed professionals, possessing excellent language and literary skills.


Main Responsibilities:


Pastoral Care

  • Demonstrate a positive and caring attitude towards every student
  • Liaise with and support Class Teacher and Junior School Management Team in all matters pertaining to pastoral wellbeing, responsibility and strategy
  • Supervise students in line with the school's code of conduct for behaviour and discipline
  • Complete student observations and feedback to the teacher, as necessary, in a range of formats
  • Follow the school's policies and procedures with regard to pastoral provision

Teaching

  • Work alongside the Head of Mandarin in the design of the Mandarin Curriculum for the Early Years
  • Responsibility for the daytoday teaching of the Mandarin Curriculum

Curriculum

  • Assist the teacher in the delivery of the taught curriculum, especially Numeracy and Literacy.
  • Support students with developing and practising Mandarin conversation throughout the day
  • Carry out planned curriculum tasks with individuals or groups under teacher instruction;
  • Be aware of forward planning and events in the curriculum, contributing ideas as necessary;
  • Supervise and support students in planned activities under teacher instruction;
  • Listen to children read, using the appropriate skills
  • Assess individual student's sight words/ HFW spellingsmonitor progress and set new words.

Organisation

  • Actively contribute to setting and maintaining daily routines
  • Anticipate the organisational needs of the class and act upon them
  • Ensure the correct supply of stationery materials
  • Liaise with parents around organisational issues
  • Work with teacher to prepare resources for the class
  • Maintain educational equipment used by the class, including care and hygiene

Classroom

  • Support class teacher in creating and maintaining an attractive, tidy, stimulating and supportive learning environment, including displays and equipment
  • Support class teacher in setting up and clearing away equipment and resources for students to access during the day and in specific activities

Communication

  • Give regular feedback to the teacher on educational and pastoral issues
  • Inform teacher of communication/letters from other departments
  • Communicate confidently with teachers and their assistants across all key stages
  • Ensure that letters to parents are distributed
  • Communicate confidently and effectively with parents, referring to the teacher as required
  • Deal with queries from other areas informing t,he teacher as required

General

  • Work in areas of the school in other jobrelated tasks as circumstances require
  • Maintain a standard of personal image in keeping with the classroom role.
  • Maintain ongoing professional development in accordance with the requirements of the school and maintain an accurate and up to date record of that professional development.

Safeguarding

  • Abide by the school safeguarding policy and keep abreast of any changes

Qualifications/Skills

  • You should possess a Diploma in Early Childhood Care and Education (Mandarin) and have valid teaching certification (L1 and/or L2) from ECDA.
  • Ensure that your own educational philosophy aligns with the NLCS ethos and you should have a proven track record of outstanding Mandarin teaching and classroom practice.
  • Previous experience of the UK National Curriculum would be an advantage but is not essential; of prime importance is the ability to motivate and inspire students in order to ensure that academic provision is consistently outstanding.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to deliver mandarin curriculum is essential for this role.
