    ABOUT THE ROLEAs an Engineering Manager within the Design Engineering function based at St James Power Station, your primary responsibility will be overseeing design engineering teams focused on mechanical drives development and integration.

    Your goal will be to ensure the successful delivery of complex and high-impact projects. Drawing upon your technical expertise and leadership skills, you will foster a high-performance culture and drive strategic prioritization.

    It will be your duty to ensure the quality and timely delivery of the work produced by the teams under your supervision.

    As a people leader, you will serve as a role model for Dyson values and cultivate a high-performance culture within your team.

    You will focus on enhancing the team's capabilities and capacity by recruiting, developing, and retaining talented individuals. Additionally, you will continuously work towards improving processes and tools to optimize efficiency.

    Collaboration will be a key aspect of your role, as you will work closely with cross-functional teams and senior management.

    Your influential recommendations and decisions will contribute to the development of user-focused solutions that align with design and project goals.

    Through your efforts, you will demonstrate the broader impact of your work on the organization.


    Responsibilities include:

    Project and Design Management:

    Working within Dyson Processes, Quality Management system, standards, and regulatory requirements such as FDA and ISO13485.Review and approve assembly requirements and subsequent changes.

    Ensure boundaries and interfaces to other assemblies are well defined.
    Ensure alignment with architecture, traceability to requirements, and best practices.
    Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify dependencies, risks, and mitigation strategies within the design engineering context. Assess, plan, and agree activities.
    Manage capability and resources in the team to meet project schedules.

    Ensure that all work assignments are well matched to the capability and development needs of the individuals within the team.


    Engineering and Quality Assurance:

    Responsible for the overall development of Engineering solutions, and the safety and reliability of all assemblies developed within the team.

    Ensure solutions follow robust engineering principles, best practice and, are delivered in a timely and cost-effective manner to meet schedule and cost targets.

    Evaluate the build process to confirm its effectiveness and efficiency in achieving design and project objectives.
    Assess the quality of build outputs against the requirements.
    Ensure that all design engineering tasks are, conducted safely throughout the build process.

    Oversee design engineering testing activities and ensure that proper test planning is conducted, and the right resources are available to run the testing.

    Provide technical guidance in creating new and complicated test methods as needed.

    Assess the results of design iterations, such as performance metrics, Design Failure Mode, and Effects Analysis (DFMEA), and lessons learned, to evaluate design maturity and guide future design iterations.

    Review and approve Change Requests, ensuring that all deliverables have been met.
    Review Part approval or Deviation Requests and determine final approval status.

    Leadership and Talent Management:
    Monitor and report on project progress, providing updates to senior management and stakeholders.

    Lead or contribute to team, department, or functional level change projects as needed, supporting efforts to enhance organizational efficiency or develop new capabilities.

    Manage capability and resources in the team to meet project schedules. Ensuring that all work assignments are well matched to the capability and development needs of the team.
    Establish objectives for the team and monitor progress towards completion.
    Attract, recruit, and retain talent.
    Support professional development of all individuals within the team. Ensure development plans of team members are relevant and stretching.


    About you:
    A degree in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design, Mechatronics Engineering or equivalent

    Demonstrated experience in mechanical mechanisms:
    Gears and gear trains, Cams and followers, linkages and structural components, frames, fasteners, bearings, and springs. (Experience with NX CAD, ANSYS CAE and KISSSOFT Gear software)

    Analytical ability using statistical tools and analysis techniques:
    Design of Experiments, Measurement Systems Analysis, Root Cause analysis etc. (Six Sigma training or similar).Good knowledge of control systems and electromechanical or mechatronic components. (Basic programming C++, Visual Basics, LabVIEW, MATLAB etc.)Knowledge of product /medical device regulations and design control processes. (FDA GPM requirements noted in 21 CFR 820. ISO 13485 Quality System Requirements)Proven history in managing a design engineering team and delivering projects to specification on time and within budget.
    Strong leadership abilities, excellent communication skills, and problem-solving capabilities.
