Job Summary:


The Environmental Control Officer (ECO) plays a critical role in ensuring that road and civil construction projects adhere to environmental regulations and standards.

Working closely with road contractors, government agencies, and environmental stakeholders, the ECO oversees environmental compliance, monitors construction activities, and implements mitigation measures to minimize environmental impacts.

This role requires a strong understanding of environmental laws, regulations, and best practices in the construction industry.


Key Responsibilities:


  • Ensure that all construction activities comply with relevant environmental laws, regulations, and permits.
  • Review project plans and specifications to identify potential environmental impacts and develop mitigation strategies.
  • Conduct regular inspections to monitor compliance with environmental requirements and address any violations promptly.
  • Maintain records of environmental monitoring data, inspection reports, and compliance documentation.
  • Monitor air, water, and soil quality during construction activities to assess potential environmental impacts.
  • Implement erosion and sediment control measures to prevent soil erosion and protect water quality.
  • Monitor noise and vibration levels to minimize disturbances to surrounding communities.
  • Coordinate with government agencies, clients, and community stakeholders to address environmental concerns.
  • Respond to inquiries and complaints from the public regarding environmental issues related to construction activities.
  • Provide environmental training to project staff and contractors to raise awareness of environmental requirements and best practices.
  • Develop educational materials and conduct outreach programs to promote environmental stewardship among project stakeholders.
  • Foster a culture of environmental responsibility and compliance within the project team and contractor workforce.
  • Identify potential environmental risks associated with construction activities and develop contingency plans to mitigate these risks.
  • Respond to environmental incidents and emergencies, such as spills or releases, in accordance with established protocols.
  • Conduct postproject evaluations to assess the effectiveness of environmental mitigation measures and identify lessons learned for future projects.

Qualifications:


  • Registered Environmental Control Officer for Specified Construction Sites with National Environment Agency.
  • Previous experience in environmental compliance, preferably in the construction industry or infrastructure development projects.
  • Strong knowledge of environmental laws and regulations.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively engage with diverse stakeholders and facilitate collaborative problemsolving.
  • Strong analytical and problemsolving skills, with the ability to assess complex environmental issues and develop practical solutions.
  • Attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously in a fastpaced environment.
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in the construction industry.
  • Experience in the implementation of ISO 14001 and Green & Gracious Builder Scheme (GGBS)
  • Working Day: Monday to Friday and Alternate Saturday
  • Salary commensurate with working experience
