    Description

The Asian School of the Environment (ASE) is an interdisciplinary school that will be a world leader in environmental research focused on Asian environmental challenges. The ASE integrates earth and environmental life science, ecology, engineering and technology, human ecology, humanities, and the social sciences to address key issues of the environment and sustainability.

We seek a Research Fellow with demonstrable experience in the field of experimental fluid dynamics both in physical modelling and measurement, preferably someone with experience with Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV) and Particle Tracking Velocimetry (PTV) and in-depth knowledge of experimental fluid mechanics. The successful candidate will work with the Volcano team to model the magma flow during transport and eruption in the magma transport laboratory. He/she may be expected to help co-mentor PhD students or research assistants in the group.

    Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and conduct experiments to model the magma flow during transport and eruption in the magma transport laboratory
  • Utilise Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV) and Particle Tracking Velocimetry (PTV) for measurements and interpretation
  • Relate analogue results to real volcanoes
  • Collaborate with research partners to explore potentials of more possibilities
  • Job Requirements:

  • Ph.D. in Civil Engineering (hydraulics), Fluid Mechanics or a related field from an accredited university with a keen interest in Geophysical fluid dynamics, ideally have several years of post-Ph.D experience.
  • Demonstrate expertise in physical (analogue) modelling of fluid dynamics in the laboratory.
  • Experience with high-speed cameras, synchronisations, image acquisition and processing.
  • Experience in carrying out measurements in two phase gas\liquid flows with Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV) technique is a bonus.
  • Demonstrate enthusiasm and willingness to learn
  • Strong track record of publishing research relevant to the position in Tier 1 journals
  • Evidence of excellent English language and communication skills
  • Evidence of independence in research direction and team spirit
  • Team player and willingness to collaborate
  • The College of Science seeks a diverse and inclusive workforce and is committed to equality of opportunity. We welcome applications from all and recruit on the basis of merit, regardless of age, race, gender, religion, marital status and family responsibilities, or disability.

We regret that only shortlisted candidates will be notified.
