    The Opportunity

    We are looking for an ambitious Property Underwriter who has the skills, drive, and gravitas to grow a profitable Property book and develop her/his career in Swiss Re as one of the world's global reinsurance leaders.

    You will be originating, analyzing, pricing and underwriting Property risks and portfolios, as well as deploying capacity appropriately according to risk and portfolio quality and Group guidelines within the framework of your underwriting authority.

    Your core territorial remit will be Singapore and Southeast Asia; but you are expected to work closely with other markets in Asia to support their underwriting and business origination.

    You will market and promote Swiss Re, and you will be expected to apply your market and product knowledge to provide clients and brokers with adequate, joint solutions which meet our clients' needs.

    Your job will involve internal interaction, among others, with client managers, underwriters, structurers, and modelers across the region supporting building and maximizing the market.

    It will be upon you to develop new business pipelines and manage renewals, support the development of business and strategic plans for Property business with the aim of sustainably developing the Property book of core business as well as new solutions or transactions for our clients and brokers.

    Operation, development, and promotion of Swiss Re's electronic placement channel SwiftRe will be part of your remit.

    You will support the Head Property Facultative SouthEast Asia & India in portfolio management and steering to ensure profitable growth and portfolio balance and achieve both, quantitative metric and qualitative goals set. You will support the development business pipelines for new and renewal business.

    Your performance will be measured based on bottom line.

    Key Responsibilities

    Underwriting and Business focus:

  • Underwrite profitable facultative Property business
  • Operate in accordance with the marketing objectives, strategies and plans developed by the Singapore/SEA Property Facultative Team and Product Centre
  • Provide high quality, timely and appropriate underwriting service to clients, in keeping with underwriting authorities and Corporate Governance Rules
  • Contribute to robust new business pipelines and manage renewal to maximise the Company commercial position and pricing adequacy
  • Diligent use of pricing/modelling tools and robust reflection of pricing to exposure and risk quality
  • Proactively improve data transparency and accuracy
  • Provide underwriting support to other Swiss Re offices, if required
  • Provide high quality, timely and appropriate underwriting service to clients and brokers
  • Develop and implement facultative reinsurance solutions for our clients
  • Demonstrate robust capability in formally preparing for and conducting quality meetings with clients to identify business opportunities
  • Actively seek and procure opportunities in the market through high quality client and broker interactions, relationship building and engagement
  • Positively contribute to Swiss Re's reputation, profile, and brand
  • Support client relationships between appropriate SRAL staff and client staff across the range of reinsurance related functions
  • Participate in cross functional team initiatives
  • Proactively liaise with the Claims Team to stay abreast of claims trends and issues of the market/client companies and their profitability
  • Participate in project teams as required

  • SwiftRe responsibility:

  • Develop a profitable, diversified and highly automated SwiftRe portfolio, improve efficiency and automation within the underwriting control framework
  • Steer the SwiftRe portfolios for profitable growth, contribute to underwriting parameters setting, optimizing automation, response time and underwriting control
  • Promote SwiftRe propositions, develop new partners, expand into new territories, and deepen penetration in existing markets and partners
  • Become SwiftRe product expert and first port of call to clients and internal cross-functional teams in any SwiftRe matter
  • Ensure timely response to clients, manage daily referrals (jMetro), provide coaching to clients, and support SwiftRe on/off-boarding
  • Knowledge & Skills

  • Knowledge of industrial and commercial property underwriting: all classes of insured risk, contractual details/setup
  • 5 years or more of relevant costing/pricing experience for complex risk and up-to-date with insurance and reinsurance products
  • Market knowledge as underwriter/broker, preferably in Southeast Asia; experience in other emerging markets will be considered
  • Completed ACII qualification is an advantage
  • Comfortable working in a highly collaborative, multi-cultural matrix organisation
