    The Director of Ship Design will be responsible for the development of Longitude's ship design activities within the APAC region.

    Partnering with stakeholders from Longitude, and across the broader ABL Group, this position will lead business development, consultancy and ship design activities.

    This will range from setting our marketing strategy and focus through to structuring scopes and negotiating the terms of a project with new and existing clients.

    You will be supported by the Engineering Director / Operations Manager and Managing Director and by the regional and global discipline heads and Project Managers / Client Managers.

    What you will be doing.

    In this newly created position, you will be responsible for the business development and engineering activities for this sector of our business.

    Your day-to-day duties will include working with our clients to ascertain their needs and helping to deliver projects.


    More specifically, you will:


    Undertake technical consultancy work as required and develop new and existing competencies and frameworks in alignment with our business needs.

    Forward plan the workload for your department. This will involve liaising with other sector leads in ABL Group to plan activity and define strategy.

    Identify prospects and new opportunities. You will be able to partner with our sales and marketing teams to develop strategies, marketing plans and materials.

    Oversee all marketing and sales activity for your sector. This will involve meeting with new and existing clients and undertaking tendering activity for new business.


    Be responsible for delivering the P&L for the sector (on a project and aggregate basis) and budgets for future years.

    Monitor invoicing and cash collection activities with support from finance to ensure compliance with WIP and cash collection targets.


    Oversee the management of projects in terms of safety, quality, schedule and (in combination with discipline heads) resourcing, either as Project Director, Project Manager, or Project Lead as appropriate.

    Prepare, review, and / or approval of tenders in accordance with delegated authority matrix.


    Identify R&D opportunities, engage with the Engineering Director and Regional Managing Director and other sector and discipline heads for approval of R&D opportunities.


    Identify and support training needs within the engineering team and work with stakeholders across ABL Group to deliver support that is required.

    Ensure that your team is familiar with and complies with ABL Group QHSE standards, policies, procedures, and guidelines.

    Ensure that projects are completed and delivered in accordance with ABL Group procedures.

    What we are looking for.

    You will have proven experience in ship design and ideally with a focus on offshore construction vessels for the oil & gas and / or the renewable energy sectors.


    Additionally, you will:
    Be educated to degree level in an engineering discipline relevant for the role such as Naval Architecture.

    Have proven experience of managing engineering teams.

    Possess proven relationship management skills and the ability to manage clients.

    Possess knowledge and experience of working within the APAC region desirable.


    Possess working knowledge of engineering principles, practices, and the ability to select and apply industry standards, methods, techniques, and guidelines.

    Have good verbal and written communication skills in English.
