The International Affairs Division (IAD) of the Attorney-General's Chambers provides legal advice to all Government departments, Ministries and statutory boards on international law issues.

The IAD also represents Singapore at bilateral and multilateral negotiations, and in international disputes, trade-related proceedings and at other international fora.

We are a vibrant and relatively small Division which was set up in 1995 in order to advance and protect Singapore's interests through international law.

Our work covers a diverse range of matters including, but not limited to, international trade law, human rights, law of the sea, and aviation law.

The International Legal Cooperation Team (ILCT) was set up within IAD in 2011 and serves as Singapore's Central Authority for mutual legal assistance and extradition.

It also advises and represents the Singapore Government on international cooperation in criminal matters.


Responsibilities:

As a Legal Specialist of the ILCT, your work will include:

  • Review and process cases in accordance with the applicable legal requirements, standard operating procedures and policies;
  • Perform initial case assessments and establish nexuses;
  • Coordinate with domestic agencies and requesting countries to ensure the efficient disposal of cases;
  • Proactively track and monitor timelines for cases. Send out reminders to relevant parties for response;
  • Attend meetings and court proceedings and prepare written reports;
  • Assist with taking notes of court proceedings. From time to time, assist in the conduct of trials and other judicial proceedings;
  • Develop and maintain ILCT's Knowledge Management (KM) materials;
  • Conduct substantive legal research;
  • Assist with adhoc projects and events organised by IAD & AGC; and
  • Perform any other tasks as assigned by supervisors and to work collaboratively with colleagues within IAD and across other legal divisions.
Other Accountabilities

As a member of the Singapore Public Service, you will also be responsible for ensuring the proper handling of files and documents according to established and approved procedures, including handling and sealing documents based on classification.

You will also be responsible for ensuring that all work, whether ad hoc or routine, is completed on time and of high standard.

All new appointees will be appointed on a two-year contract.
