Role Responsibilities

Strategy

  • Lead the development and implementation of the bank's technical roadmap, aligning it with the business strategy and objectives while promoting a strong engineering culture.
  • Provide technical leadership and oversight for the full Lifecyle use of APIs across the enterprise
  • Set Strategy and Provide Expert Guidance on the adoption of Emerging Technologies into the Enterprise, working with all relevant stakeholders

Business

  • Drive the adoption of engineering best practices, methodologies, and standards, ensuring high code quality, scalability, and maintainability.
  • Ensure platform initiatives and joined up with business domain initiatives
  • Provide feedback to product owners on strategic initiatives
  • Identify, introduce, and support emerging technology and best market practices which accelerate time to market and ensure effective client experiences.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to understand business requirements and translate them into technical solutions that meet regulatory and compliance standards.

Processes

  • Promote the use of good practices over single best practices through engineering communities
  • Work with Architecture, Security, Compliance, Cloud and Technology Governance to adopt a continuous improvement approach to all policies, procedures.
  • Identify new areas of focus and activity for both internal and external technology communities.
  • Contribute to the selection process for future Distinguished Engineer cohorts within the organisation.
  • Help maintain the Distinguished Engineer standards across the industry.
  • Develop and roll out best practice in their domain of expertise or their specialism.
  • Rescue, remediate or provide expertise on initiatives with significant technology challenges.

People & Talent

  • Lead through example and build the engineering culture and values. Set appropriate tone and expectations for the team and stakeholders.
  • Sponsor, support and enable relevant Engineering Communities across the bank to ensure good practice, learning and challenges are shared widely
  • Mentor and coach individuals and develop the community of technical talent.
  • Drive creation and provide ongoing input and support for the delivery of technology talent programmes.
  • Develop and nurture an extensive internal and external network of technologists.
  • Create a positive impact in the organisation and across the industry by sharing knowledge and expertise with others.
  • Perform a vital communication role within the organisation on technology matters.
  • Use communication as a tool for engagement, motivation, and comprehension.
  • Help create a pipeline of technical talent, identifying high potential individuals and helping to create mechanisms to recognise and develop the talent pipeline.
  • Stay uptodate with industry advancements, participate in relevant conferences and forums, and contribute to the bank's thought leadership, inspiring a culture of continuous learning and knowledge sharing.

Risk Management

  • Ensure a full understanding to the policies, procedures and processes impacting on Application Delivery
  • Conduct technology assessments, risk evaluations, and provide recommendations to enhance security and resilience across the bank's infrastructure, emphasizing a culture of security and risk awareness.
  • Act quickly and decisively when any risk and control weakness become apparent and ensure they are addressed within an appropriate timeframe and, if necessary, escalated through the relevant committees

  • Display exemplary conduct and live by the Group's Values and Code of Conduct.
  • Take personal responsibility for embedding the highest standards of ethics, including regulatory and business conduct, across Standard Chartered Bank.
