    SGX Fall Internship Programme (July - December 2023)

    Data, Connectivity & Indices (DCI) Internship Programme

    Index Services / SGX Index Edge

    SGX Index Edge is a leading provider of financial indices globally. We operate in an exciting and fast changing world of active and passive investments. Our proprietary indices are designed to give passive exposure to major socio-economic developments through thematic and smart beta investment strategies. We also collaborate with major investment banks and help them in independently calculate the alpha generating strategies across equities and fixed income markets.

    Learning Objectives:
    Working with the team, the intern will learn about the innovative developments in the world of investing. Specific topics will be Active and Passive Investments, Quantitative Investment Strategies, Thematic & Smart Beta Investments, along with the general workings of global financial markets.

    The intern will also have the opportunity to test/translate the investment ideas into code and implement the solution onto a cloud based system.

    Job Description:
    The intern is expected to make sample portfolios, calculate indices, develop excel (or Python) based models as well as help the team with the preparation of pitch books/ marketing materials, weekly/ monthly market and index commentaries.
    Other ad-hoc tasks e.g. data download from systems like Bloomberg or Factset is required.
    There is immense scope to contribute and test independent ideas.

    Knowledge, Skills and Requirements:

  • Basic understanding of financial markets and modern portfolio theory
  • Good command of MS Office (Excel, Power Point, Word, Excel VBA)
  • Knowledge of Python and cloud computing (aws) will be advantageous
  • Ability to work independently and have curiosity to learn
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal, communication and presentation skills
  • Most importantly, the intern should be self-driven. (S)he should be curious about the business, willing to take responsibilities, and not hesitant in approaching any member in the team for help

    Index Operations

    The Index Operations team manages the daily activities for calculation of 1000+ thematic and custom indices for the iEdge business. This involves data management of static referential databases and dynamic market data feeds, corporate actions, and exchange holidays across global markets.

    Learning Objectives:
    The selected intern will gain exposure to the operational framework of managing various financial datasets such as equities, futures, indices, bonds and FX; as well as specialized topics such as Active and Passive Investing, Thematic and Smart Beta strategies.

    Job Description:

  • Onboard: Work with the team to plan, coordinate and onboard new indices to our cloud based system
  • Development: Suggest and develop systematic solutions with the help of new technological tools, to enhance operational resiliency and scalability of daily tasks
  • Support: Help resolve any queries or issues that might arise from clients
  • Knowledge, Skills and Requirements:

  • Basic understanding of financial markets and products (must)
  • Passionate, result oriented, and good team player (must)
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills (must)
  • Able to work under minimal supervision
  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Good command of MS Excel (Formulas, VBA, Power Query)
