    Roles & Responsibilities

    Brighton College (Singapore) is seeking to appoint a Head of Music (Senior School), to start in August 2024. The Head of Music will play a key role in the growth of the school. They will facilitate the delivery of a wide range of opportunities for all pupils to be involved in the musical life of the school and will nurture the talents of the top musicians in delivering performances of the highest quality. As a teacher of music, they will also be responsible for the development of a music curriculum that delivers both an outstanding learning experience for pupils and top academic outcomes.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Take responsibility for the teaching, progress and attainment of all pupils in Years 7 to 9 from August 2024, and for all other senior year groups in the following years.
    • Lead on all aspects of curriculum planning and delivery, including preparation for the first IGCSE Year 10 cohort starting in August 2025.
    • Lead on all aspects of assessment, tracking and reporting for academic music.
    • Demonstrate the experience and ability to teach music across all relevant Key Stages (including IGCSE/GCSE and A-level).
    • Act as an outstanding classroom practitioner, with the ability to lead by example.
    • Devise and implement rigorous self-evaluation processes.
    • Promote excellence, creativity and innovation in all areas of the music curriculum.
    • Lead the provision and administration of a rich and varied programme of co-curricular music.
    • Direct a number of musical groups and ensembles for Senior School pupils (and Upper Prep pupils where appropriate).
    • Line manage the Head of Music for Prep and Pre-Prep Music Teacher.
    • Line manage the Visiting Music Teachers (VMT) who work across all sections of the school, taking a lead in their recruitment and induction as required.
    • Demonstrate commitment to continuous professional development.
    • Devise a calendar of musical events running throughout the year, coordinating closely with the Prep and Pre-Prep staff.
    • Collaborate with other staff in the performing arts (e.g. Drama, Dance) on school productions.
    • Demonstrate the experience and expertise needed to support pupils in future years with applications to leading conservatoires and universities, including Oxford and Cambridge and other world-class universities.
    • Ensure pupils have opportunities to prepare for, and participate in, both internal and external music competitions, providing appropriate stretch and challenge.
    • Work closely with the Heads of EAL and AEN to develop pathways for pupils requiring additional support.
    • Develop the required curriculum and department documentation, both for current and prospective parents.
    • Work with the Head of Admissions on the assessment of music levels at entry to the Senior School.
    • Contribute to the highest standards of safeguarding and to the school's pastoral system, acting as a tutor for a Senior School year group.
    • Any other reasonable management request.

    Qualifications and Experience

    • Bachelor's degree in music, with PGCE or equivalent
    • Expert knowledge or experience of successfully delivering GCSEs/IGCSEs and A-level.
    • Proven track record of middle leadership (preferred but not essential).
    • International experience (preferred but not essential)
