    Description

    [What the role is]

    As part of a team maintaining an experimental 5G Core platform in a laboratory environment, this role is the subject matter expert and owner of one of the following groups of network functions/entities in the 5GC: (i) Packet Core / SBA / Data Management, (ii) Cloud / NFVI / SDN, or (iii) IMS.

    Key Responsibilities:

    He/she shall be responsible for the configuration, operation and maintenance of the said network functions/entities in support of users of the experimental platform. He/she shall also be responsible for performing detailed technical assessment and analysis of 5G Core-related technologies/operation, conduct technology experimentation of 5G emerging products and solutions, validation of new 5G solutions derived from R&D efforts, as well as aid users of the experimental platform in familiarization with 5G Core architecture and functionality.

    Requirements:

  • Familiarity with 5GC architecture and Core network functions. 8 or more years of hands-on experience in the deployment/maintenance of 4G EPC required at a minimum, with 5GC hands-on experience strongly preferred.
  • Strong background in at least one of the following domains:

    • Packet Core / SBA / Data Management (i.e., AMF, SMF, UPF, PCF, NRF, NSSF, SCP, SEPP, AUSF, UDM, ...)

  • Experience in deployment/maintenance of virtualized Packet Core / SBA / Data Management network functions as VNF/CNF
  • End-to-end call flow analysis and troubleshooting with protocol analyzer traces
  • Familiarity with the following aspects of 5GC operation: Core Network Slicing, 5G MEC, 5GC-4G EPC interworking

    • Cloud / NFVI / SDN

  • Experience in deployment/maintenance of NFVI/VIM/VNFM/NFVO and familiarity with Data Centre network architecture
  • Familiarity with Openstack architecture and fundamentals including network and storage concepts (Neutron, Ceph, Cinder, DPDK, SR-IOV, etc.)
  • Familiar with VNF/CNF lifecycle management
  • Experience with Container technologies (Kubernetes, Docker, CNI) and their implementation
  • Familiarity with Cloud Native architecture and design
  • Familiarity with ETSI MANO architecture, SDN, micro-segmentation, ACLs, service chaining, etc.

    • IMS

  • Hands-on experience in deployment/maintenance of IMS platform for VoLTE or 5GC
  • Familiarity with IMS/SIP architecture/protocol, and interworking with other Core functions
  • Ability to troubleshoot IMS call flow using protocol analyzer traces
  • Familiar with various IMS scenarios and call flows for 5G use cases, including EPS Fallback, VoNR, SMS-over-IP, VoNR-to-VoLTE HO, etc.
  • Other desirable expertise:
  • Familiarity with IP networking/connectivity and routing/switching protocols/techniques (IPV4/IPV6, BGP, IGP, OSPF, MPLS, etc.) highly desired
  • Familiarity with end-to-end 5GC architecture and connectivity
  • Know-how of 5GC security implementation (Certificate Management, IPSec, HTTP/2 TLS, Firewalls, micro-segmentation, SOAR, SIEM, SMC, ACM, DDoS, ...)
  • Conversant in 5GC resiliency principles
  • Understanding of 5G QoS Framework

    • Position will commensurate with experience.
