Duties:


As a Data Scientist you will serve as an expert analyst and advisor to senior management, with a primary function of providing objectively based information derived from the use of advanced scientific, mathematical, and statistical work to support data-driven decision making across Office of Intelligence.

This position starts at a salary of $72, GS-11, Step 1) to $113, GS-12, Step 10) with promotion potential to $134, GS-13 Step 10).

In this Data Scientist position typical work assignments include:

  • Providing technical assistance and support on a variety of complex issues throughout OI that require data clean-up, collecting, extracting, transforming, modeling, and storing.
  • Performing quantitative and qualitative analysis and data quality assurance using statistical software and computer programs (e.g., R, SQL, Python). Participates in the use of various data sources to extracting new information.
  • Using Power BI, in conjunction with O365 and other data sources in creating dashboards and interactive visual reports

Qualifications:


  • A

Degree:
Mathematics, statistics, computer science, data science or field directly related to the position.

The degree must be in a major field of study (at least at the baccalaureate level) that is appropriate for the position.

Combination of education and experience:

Courses equivalent to a major field of study (30 semester hours) as shown in response A above, plus additional education or appropriate experience.


You qualify for this position if you meet the basic requirement listed above and possess the experience or substitution of education, if applicable, as described below:

Experience:
You qualify for the
GS-11 grade level if you possess 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing duties such as:

  • Using concepts of data science lifecycles, processes, and systems in a way that supports decision-making.
  • A
utomating data processing and procedures and creating visual reports out of a variety of data sources, usually in for recurring requirements.


Experience:
You qualify for the
GS-12 grade level if you possess 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing duties such as:

  • Using data science concepts, lifecycle models, processes and systems to support leadership decision-making.
  • Designing and implementing automations for data processing, process improvements, and other business solutions.
  • Cleaning, troubleshooting, and modeling data, and creating interactive visual reports.
  • Using O365 and PowerBI in conjunction with other data sources to develop tools and resolve issues.

Education Substitution GS-11:Successful completion of a Ph.
D. or equivalent degree or three years of full-time graduate education leading to such a degree.

This education must have been obtained from an accredited college or university demonstrate the skills necessary to do the work of the position.

A course of study in physical sciences, life sciences, or engineering is qualifying. Check with your school to determine how many credit hours comprise three years of graduate study. If that information is not available, use 54 semester or 81 quarter hours.

Combining Experience and Education:To combine your education and experience, convert each to a percentage and then add the percentages. If your education is currently described in quarter hours, multiply by the fraction 2/3 to convert into semester hours then divide the semester hours by 18. To determine your percentage of qualifying experience, divide your total months of experience by the required number of months of experience. Add your percentages together. The total must equal at least 100% in order to qualify.
